Solid carbide lasts far longer than steel, and reverse spiral flutes cut downward for cleaner, "no fuzz" edges in routed cavities.

Use the larger bits for removing wood in the middle of your inlay work, and save the smaller bits for the fine details. The fine detail bits are fragile, for routing intricate details only.
What type of bit do I need?
In our shops we use both, depending on the job and the type of wood we're working on.
Downcut Bits cut a very clean top edge of the rout with some fuzz around the bottom. These are perfect for jobs like cutting purflings and soundhole rosettes on softer woods like spruce and mahogany. We also use them for cutting inlay routs where you want a clean top edge with less possibility of grain tear out.
For the cleanest flat-bottom rout, use Upcut bits.
