I've just cut binding channels for the first time using the StewMac Binding Router Bit and a laminate trimmer. I have to admit I was scared, but I followed the directions, took my time, and the job turned out beautifully.

Excellent router bit.

These are top quality router bits. I have cut many binding channels with my StewMac router bit set & TrueChannel jig. The original router bit is still cutting perfectly but I decided I ought to have a spare just in case something happens mid-job sometime.

I am happy with this purchase. Used in a router table which gave me more control over this challenging task and the information in the how to link was helpful in me buying the correct bearing size and binding. Thanks

Works well, but very overpriced.

This worked very well for routing the binding and with the various bearings you get the cut depth that you need for the binding and purfling combinations. Also, the extension bushing is helpful. It's just that $56 is an insane price for this type of bit.

Perfect tool for the job

Excellent product designed for routing channels for binding. Even when you run around the body clockwise or climb cut it does not grab, leaving a perfect fit for the binding. You must order the correct bearing for the binding you wish to use.

Nice tooling Quality

While I cut my bodies with CNC and usually do the binding recess at the same time, there are instances where either human error or changing specifications after-the-fact come into play. This bit with the available guide bearings is up to the task and I'm pleased with its quality. Yes, it's not inexpensive tooling, but StewMac did a good job matching up the cutter with a wide variety of guide bearings to serve the needs of the luther, pro or hobbyist.

I using homemade router base/jig and after using the Binding Router Bit I wish I would have moved to this earlier. Makes the job real easy and hard to mess up.

ALMOST a perfect product!

This router bit does exactly what it is designed to do. I've used a lot of router bits in my life, for all sorts of non-guitar woodworking projects, and this is as good as it gets. It even seems to be "better" than it gets. I routed out a channel for the StewMac .565 extra tall plastic binding in the extra dense heavy-duty white oak. It went through that white oak like butter. It went through so smooth and cleanly, I almost thought it wasn't cutting at all for some reason, but when I lifted my router off the work piece... a perfect binding channel was there.
The ONLY thing that is not perfect about this product, is that it's max. cutting height is .375, because that is how tall the bit itself is. So, if you want to cut out a taller channel, (like the .565 binding), you have to make multiple passes and do some experimentation with the bit-height, and hope you don't over shoot. Well... I over shot. So I ruined the piece. But that was my fault, not the bit's. But still... it would have been nice to have the bit be just a few 8ths of an inch taller.

Also... if you are using a big heavy-duty router, make sure you have a 1/4" collet, because the shank on this bit is the smaller 1/4". And that makes perfect sense for this bit, just a heads up.
