StewMac Bridge Clamp Caul

About This Item

For gluing acoustic guitar bridges
Evenly distributes clamping pressure across the acoustic bridge. Works with one clamp or multiple clamps. Shaped and padded underside conforms to the contours of most bridges.

Use a single clamp: Apply one strong clamp at the middle of the caul. We recommend our Large Swivel Handle Clamp. Add extra pressure at the bridge ends using the caul's built-in wing clamps using the wrench provided.

Use multiple clamps: When the job requires the extra pressure, the caul's level surface provides a good footing for three or more clamps. The wing clamp adjusting screws sit below the surface so they won't interfere with additional clamps.

Two indexing screws mate with the bridge pin holes to hold the caul in place while you work (wrench provided). These screws have an added benefit: with the caul held upside-down in a vise, the screws keep the bridge from sliding while you scrape and score the underside before gluing.

  • Size: 5-7/8" x 1-1/4" (149mm x 32mm)
  • Solid aluminum
  • Rubber pads are non-reactive with instrument finishes
  • Two hex wrenches included for wing clamps and index screws

The Bridge Clamping Caul is included in our Acoustic Bridge Tools Set, for removing and installing acoustic bridges and bridge plates (bridge pads).

Disappointment at best.

Verified Buyer

Cost of the tool is just the tip of the iceberg to use it. All of the clamps I recently purchases are too small. So, be prepared to invest more if you don't have any with a large opening. The IBEX clamps and sound hole clamps I just purchased from StewMac DO NOT WORK. The product would be much better with knobs you can turn to adjust. The two wrenches (drivers) included for the hex screws are not practical. And, it did not come in the same color as depicted,

A must have if you repair acoustic guitars

I have StewMac's previous generation with the knobs for adjusting the wing clamps. I have used it extensively and just recently adapted it for use on a Korean made Ovation 12 string bridge. Matching the hole spacing of the two screws Ovation used to anchor the middle of the bridge, drill holes in the caul and insert a pair of #4 8x32x2" machine screws through to a pair of plywood cauls on the inside, securing them with nuts and washers. Note: You might not be able to modify your new StewMac caul this way, so modify your old StewMac caul and buy this new one!

Bridge caul - works great!

Verified Buyer

I bought this tool because I have several old guitars with lifting bridges, not to mention that this is such a common problem but it seems like a good tool to have. I used it in conjunction with a 7 in guitar sound hole clamp also from Stewart MacDonald and it worked great. The bridge I reglued using this caul is still fastened tight even with the strings on under tension for several weeks. Very happy with this purchase!
