Schaller Roller Bridge

About This Item

A direct replacement for most Tune-o-matic style bridges!
Schaller's unique variation of the Tune-o-matic bridge features low-friction roller saddles for smoother tuning and tremolo action.

These intonation-adjustable brass saddles allow adjustable string spread, and are angled slightly for correct alignment with the offset mounting studs and threaded bushings. The bridge can be used with standard Gibson® guitar tailpieces.

About bridge & tailpiece measurements

Bridge and Tailpiece reference image

String spread is the distance between the centers of the outer strings on a bridge or tailpiece.

Saddle radius determines the arc formed by all the individual saddle heights, and is similar to the measurement of a fretboard.

Stud/post spacing is the distance between the centers of the mounting posts of a bridge or 'stop' tailpiece.

What a difference!

A couple years ago I bought a great Yamaha version of a Gibson classic. But I felt when played hard, the tuning would slip a little. I had great locking tuners already so decided to simply replace the original bridge with this roller bridge. HOLY SH!T! This guitar is off the charts now in terms of sound, tone, tuning - such an inexpensive thing to make your guitar play like a pro.

The Best Roller Bridge I've Tried Yet

By

I've replaced all of my tune-o-matic bridges with these Schaller roller bridges and they're the best roller bridges that I've ever used. They look really nice, feel really nice due to the rounded edges, and the saddles have plenty of lateral travel, which has been a problem for me in the past when an ABR-1 bridge ran out of room for adjusting the saddles and I couldn't intonate the low E string properly.

For £39 I find them to be fairly priced, and I think they're made in Germany which to me means they're going to be well made.
What I will add is that I don't think they're chrome because the silvery coloured ones that I bought were actually nickel, not chrome. I could be wrong though, and they may have started making them in a chrome finish now but the photos on here do look like the nickel ones to me

The Schaller roller bridges have improved the tuning stability of two of my Gibson’s equipped with Bigsbys. Stewart-MacDonald customer service is second to none. Will look to StewMac for all of my guitar repair needs.

Took less than 2 minutes to install and fit perfectly! Much better that the stick bridge which loves to eat strings.

This Schaller Roller Bridge fit easily on my Les Paul. I did disassemble and reassemble the bridge, which was difficult and time consuming, in order to have the heads of the adjustment screws face the stop tailpiece so as to ease access to them when intonating. All of the machining on this bridge was well done so all of the adjustments were easy to make.

I purchased this bridge a few months ago and it came with M5 and M8 posts. Now only the M5 posts are included. Love the sound of the bridge on my previous install. Still looking for a source for the M8 studs for my current project.

This Schaller Roller Bridge is nice! Precision manufactured and beautifully plated (gold).
The adjustable string spacing in my opinion is a huge plus. I have not experienced any tone loss or rattle with this bridge.
The Schaller Roller Bridge was recommended by StewMac customer service and has proven itself to be a very high quality upgrade.

I purchased this as part of a "tuning stability" upgrade to a new Epiphone Johnny A.
The guitar was fantastic on all counts except that it could not hold tune.
Installation:
The body studs were too small in diameter to be used in the Johnny A so I popped out the originals, drilled and tapped the for the larger 5mm height adjusting screws.
After bridge installation, the gap between the top of the body studs and the bottom of the adjusting screws was measured for correct string height and solid brass spacers were made and installed to increase stability of the bridge. This was done to combat the steep break angle of the strings (from bridge to Bigsby tensioner bar).
The Bigsby tensioner bar was replaced with one that has roller bearings instead of the original nylon bushings. I had to make a new axle and new nylon axle support bushings for the tensioner bar due to a metric to inch conversion.
The last step was to install a new Tusq XL nut.
Not a whole lot of work and a minimum investment to completely eliminate a small problem with a super nice instrument.

The only disappointing thing about it is that it only comes with one size insert post, but with a little ingenuity you can overcome that as I did, but you have to make sure all other measurements are correct, the only reason I purchased it was because I can space my strings a little further apart, and that is what I do, thank you !
