Waverly Anniversary String Winder

About This Item

Pull this out of your guitar case and others will take notice!
With highly-polished brass, hand-crafted appointments, and silky smooth operation, the Waverly Anniversary String Winder is anything but ordinary.

Your prized instruments deserve more than a cheap string winder
The elegantly tapered handle and perfectly balanced weight make for a tool you won't want to put down (and friends won't want to give back!). It also works with small or large sized tuner buttons.

Celebrate 100 years of Waverly Tuning Machines
The Anniversary String Winder is manufactured using the same meticulous attention to detail as our Waverly Tuning Machines. Using only the finest materials and craftsmanship, Waverly has created a tool that completely changes the definition of what a string winder should be. You've got to feel it to believe it!

Ebony: this rich, genuine tonewood is carved and polished to a smooth finish. The naturally dark wood has colors of black, brown, and tan running through the grain.

Ivoroid: has a vintage look with subtle alternating bands of whites and creams. It resembles real ivory, but is a non-animal alternative.

Dark Tortoise: each string winder has completely unique coloring and pattern, just like hawksbill turtle shell. Held up to the light you'll see the contrasting brown and black coloring completely through the winder.

Both Ivoroid and Dark Tortoise are machined from Galalith, a dense and durable casein-based material that polishes beautifully.

Waverly Anniversary String Winder

I bought the Cadillac version and in terms of wow factor it's got it!

In the utilitarian department it would have been nice if the business end of the cup would have been about 1.5 longer. Since I had a restring job in the works, I saved it until the winder showed up to do it. The crank kept hitting the head stock on its way around. Been nice if it didn't.

I like the heft of this winder. As with all things Waverly, it is well built.

Great String Winder

I purchased this Waverly String Winder mostly because it was a 100th Anniversary Commemorative and the beautiful ebony wood. BUT!! I was pleasantly surprised by how great an actual string winder it was both mechanically and ergonomically. Absolutely the best string winder that I have ever purchased and made changing strings so easy. Love It!!

Elegant string winder...but a slight caveat

Like other reviewers, I questioned the wisdom of spending so much for an item that, when you buy from some places, even gets tossed in free with an order. But those plastic freebies and the non-free plastic jobs are not on the same planet as this lovely piece--the plastic ones work, but this one works *and feels* like the very best. If that matters to you, this is worth the price. I'll add a caveat, now that I've used the Waverly on a variety of guitars: Some tuner-peg buttons won't fit into the slots (looking at you, Country Gentleman) and some fit but too tightly, so that inserting the button and removing it from the winder scrapes the button along the inside of the winder housing--and the inside of the housing on my Waverly is quite rough. Most buttons would probably withstand this unmarred, but on an older guitar or one you are really working to preserve, well, it made me use a tool with a larger slot.
