StewMac Crack Repair Tools
Fixes the nastiest cracks!
A cracked guitar side is a difficult fix, especially when the sides of the split are uneven. Here's how to pull a crack together and glue it neatly and permanently.
1. Close the crack
Our Crack Clamp uses a guitar tuner on a smooth polyethylene base. With strong thin wire, it winches the crack shut. The polyethylene won't scratch guitars, and glue doesn't stick to it.
2. Glue a perfect wooden cleat
Something new to the world of lutherie is our hardened steel Cleat Cutter. It creates perfectly round patching cleats from any wood you choose. Each cleat has a center hole for the Crack Clamp's wire. Put glue on the cleat and tighten the crack closed for a neat, professional repair.
Pump glue into the crack
Send glue deep into the crack by using the air gun with your compressor. Gentle pressure (about 10psi) does the trick.
For very long cracks, use more than one Crack Clamp at the same time.
