Great & Inexpensive

I’m pretty much a novice, so I’ve been sinking money into quality tools, which can be expensive. So, it’s nice when I can pick up necessary items for my large-and-small projects for under $20. It’s basic and does as advertised. Just used it to redo some fret endings that I had kind of botched at an earlier point. Having a caul to set the neck in made it easier secure the neck while I repaired the frets. For the price, it’s easy to pick up one of these just in case!

Brilliant Neck Support

By

The Stewmac Neck Support Caul is brilliant at holding a dismantled bolt on neck from a guitar while you are working on it. It's especially useful for keeping things firm when levelling and crowning frets.

Works for clamping too.

The lining it comes with is fairly thin and will work great for a support caul. The cork is a little thin for use as a lower clamp though, depending on how tight you have to secure the parts. But you can always add another layer of inexpensive cork that you can find at most hobby stores.

Many uses!!

I’ve purchased many of these over the years for making various jugs and fixtures. Perfect neck support and can easily be cut to length and modified. Wish that they came in other widths for wise neck basses.

Every shop, including the one I’m creating in my basement, needs this to do fret work.

Works like it should

Works, but such a simple thing is hard to screw up. For fourteen bucks it was easier than trying to make one.

It's very small/shallow

Be aware that it doesn't have much height, so this doesn't support the neck at all on a Gibson/Les Paul type guitar, without sourcing another piece of wood the right thickness to lift it up higher.

I can see now that there is a taller version available at twice the price, but at the time I couldn't find it on the website - it would help if similar tools are grouped together on the same page.
