Micro-Mesh Soft Touch Pads

About This Item

Extra-gentle hand polishing for high-gloss finishes. Each pad features Micro-Mesh® resilient abrasive on both sides of a foam center. The cushioning allows gentle polishing of finished surfaces to a mirror gloss.

The set of nine pads includes #1500, 1800, 2400, 3200, 3600, 4000, 6000, 8000, and 12000 grits. Use the grits in sequence to achieve a super gloss.

Micro-Mesh features tiny abrasive crystals on resilient cloth-backed latex. These gentle "cushioned" particles generate less heat and friction than ordinary finishing papers, don't load up as quickly, and last up to 15 times longer.

Use Micro-Mesh Soft Touch Pads with a little soapy water as a lubricant to produce a scratch-free mirror shine (avoiding soaking the pads in water when not in use). We use these regularly in our own shops for finish touch-ups and repairing scratches on pickguards. Use them on for polishing frets, too.

Don't use on finish,

These load really fast, I would not advise them for finish work. Next I used them on frets.. better fit and use. Not thrilled with these.

They work

By

They work well for what you have to do. Seems like they won't last very long, but I won't know until I continue to use them. My only gripe is identifying the pads. Some of the colors don't match up and when you get to the finer paper, some colors are too similar. This should be a quick remedy, perhaps numbers printed on the pads instead of colors.

Almost perfect!

These pads are awesome, maybe a little bit on the pricey side and I wish that they were marked from the factory to identify the grits. Once they get a little dirty its hard to tell a couple of the colors apart from each other on the fly and tell which grit I'm using. Aside from that they're a great tool.

Great Product

Via accidental bump on a wall corner, wound up with a small but very noticeable finish chip right on the edge of guitar top&side (HD28 LSV w/high gloss finish). Reviewed and followed the instructions via Dan Erlewine's video on drop-fill (I used the ColorTone clear gloss marker) followed by the razor blade excess material removal method, then applied the micro mesh pads in order from coarsest to finest on the filled edge and two accidental run&drip spots off the edge on the top and side.
Can't believe how well the pads cleaned up all the spots, and how the finest mesh pads nearly restored the finish to the high gloss. Finished with polish, and the repaired spot has disappeared. Absolutely delighted with how well these pads worked in conjuction with the rest of the repair techniques. Would not have known where to even start without Dan Erlewine's video. This is an absolute beast of a guitar, and it's so nice to have it back in nearly mint condition!

Fixed a SS frets in under a minute.

What a great recommendation for polishing out a squeaky stainless steel feet.
Along with the fingerboard guard, the job was done in under a minute with a perfect result!

Good paper.

I'm on my second set of the small pads. Very good selection of grits. Good for cleaning up frets and fret ends and other jobs. I used them more than I thought. The back will separate if you bend them too much so they're not indestructible, but they're worth the price.

These are just what you need for polishing up rough frets. I bought a new Squier Bullet Tele from a guy who bought it to mod out and decided to go another route. Initially, the frets felt very gritty when bending the strings. I polished them up with these bad boys and it smoothed them right out. It plays as smooth as my American Strat now. I will be using these on all my guitars from now on.

Great, But Have Their Limitations...

I used the small set of pads (rounded corners (1500-12,000 grit) which worked really well for my two superficiall finish crack repairs.

I ran into a bit of a problem for the repair at the neck pocket... right where the neck makes a sharp "L" angle, I had trouble getting the sanding pad in tight to the corner... sandpaper probably would have worked better for that small, tight corner.

Overall, very happy with the pads and the performed well... be sure to go through EVERY step for at least a few strokes, or scratches will still be visible. Clean the pad often and consider using the pad wet for the last 2 steps (8000, 12,000), per the manufacturer's web site.

good quality but stiff

these are good quality but the padding is very stiff, it is not anything like a sponge.
