ColorTone Vintage White Aerosol Guitar Lacquer

About This Item

The easiest way to spray a professional finish!
Get a beautiful traditional nitrocellulose lacquer finish without complicated spray equipment.

Our Vintage White is an opaque color, which we formulated to match an aged version of the Fender classic Olympic White. It also works well to replicate other white-finished guitars where the original color has changed over time. Top it off with Clear Gloss for a sleek shine, or spray with Clear Satin for a vintage look and faster feel.

ColorTone® Aerosol Guitar Lacquer is formulated especially for musical instruments. Fast-drying and resistant to alcohol and water, it produces a hard, durable finish. It comes in a convenient 13-ounce spray can.

ColorTone Lacquer can be sprayed over smooth unfinished wood; over sanded basecoats of grain filler, and over ColorTone nitrocellulose Sanding Sealer. It's ideal for touch-up work, or for an entire instrument.

Aerosol spraying is an economical way for the beginner to apply a finish. Aerosols produce a slightly rougher surface than spray guns however, and more sanding of the clear topcoats may be needed for a level finished surface.

Application Tips: We recommend spraying multiple thin coats, in a low humidity environment.

Use warm lacquer, not cold!
Pro shops spray heated lacquer because cold lacquer spatters, requiring extra sanding. You should warm up your aerosol lacquer too, simply soak them in a sink of warm tap water.

Our ColorTone Aerosol Finishing Kit is a great choice for the first-time instrument maker. It includes our easy-to-apply clear gloss aerosol finish with the best instruction book available!

I have a small shop. If I were a bigger shop I would have a couple dozen varieties of these cans around at all times. Buy them and have some around, you won't be sorry.

Excellent products!!

I've done a few guitars using only StewMac products and they are the highest quality I've ever seen. I won't use anything else. One comment about a review before mine, concerning the disintegration of the labels when warming the aerosol cans in water. Warming the cans is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT and can make all the difference so you don't really want to skip this step. This disintegration and the problems associated with it can all be avoided by simply placing the can in a large Ziploc bag BEFORE placing the can in the water for warming. It's really that simple. I figured it out the hard way too, so for what it's worth....

Beware of label disintegration

Good product and great color but when doing the recommended warm soaking the labels disintegrate into a linty pulp. I was not able to keep this red and black lint out of the spray, so my finish includes numerous small red and black specks. I sanded them out and resprayed numerous times but eventually had to accept a less than perfect finish. Plastic labels would be a huge improvement in this product. Probably ultimately my fault but I wasn’t able to overcome this issue. Beware.

Great shade of white

But buy an extra can, one is not enough to make sure you get complete coverage of the body (and wont sand through. Not even close to enough if you are painting the neck as well.
