ZerO Glide Nuts

About This Item

The easy way to install a nut, and accurate string height is built in.

Better tuning, better open string tone
The zero fret approach reduces string contact in the nut by 93%. Strings glide freely on the polished fret, and return to tune fast and reliably.

No modification needed
No cutting or changing your guitar. You can switch back to your conventional nut if you ever feel like it. Fretboard radius is not an issue: choose the ZerO Glide that fits your guitar, and the zero fret flexes to conform to your fretboard.

Available preslotted for most string spacings, and unslotted for any situation.

Upgrade option! ZerO Glide now available in stainless steel
ZerO Glide now offers stainless steel zero frets, available separately. You can easily install these frets in your existing Zero Glide nut, or add them to a new installation.

Simpler than making a nut from scratch
Making a traditional nut is tricky: it means cutting six string slots, each to a perfect depth. The ZerO Glide is so much easier: the built-in zero fret sets all the string heights at once, uniformly. The precut string slots are only needed for string spacing.

Swap out your existing nut
ZerO Glide is a direct replacement, with sizes to fit a wide range of guitars and banjos. You get four frets of different heights, to match the frets on your guitar. These are of a special nickel silver alloy that's harder and longer-wearing than conventional frets.

The zero fret sits at the exact right point for accurate intonation. Tuning is smoother too, as the strings glide across the polished fret surface.

"It was an improvement on my banjo... It actually means the nut sounds exactly like the fretted notes. So if you're doing music like I do, where you're going back and forth from open to closed strings in different places up and down the neck, having them sound exactly the same is an improvement. I found it was a fuller sound. I'm a fan of that."
Bela Fleck, Banjoist and Composer

"It's a totally logical way to do a string nut. If you want exactly the same tone on an open string and a fretted string, there's nothing quite like putting a fret there."
Rick Turner, Rick Turner Guitar Company

Fender "style" Zero Glide Nut

By

Verified Buyer

Although the idea is sound the nut I was sent was not thick enough front to back to fill the slot tightly. So I am left trying to find something to use as a shim, behind the nut.I`ll get there, just haven`t yet. This is a set neck Stratocaster style Guitar with swimming pool, and will be countersunk 1/8 inch for a Kahler X-Trem.One of two I am working on,If I get the spacing issue cleared up,I will put one one the second Guitar; Also a set neck Stratocaster style with rear mounted control cavity, and 3 single coil routes for direct mounting; Also a Kahler Tremolo.
I would hope that Zero Glide thickens the nuts(from front to back) in the future.

Easy to install

By

Verified Buyer

I'm very happy with the product and ease of the installation. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the distance between strings is not the same as the original nut. I compared with a Squire Mustang, 2 Fender Stats and a Kamer Strat and the distance on the zero glide was less than all of these. I installed anyway and it did not seem to effect the way the guitar played.

Zero Fret installation

Purchased the ZerO Glide Nut for my Fender Squires Strat. Less than thirty minutes to install. Didn’t even have to remove the strings, just loosen and zip tie out of the way under the neck. Plays great and looks great.

Saved My Squier!

By

Verified Buyer

I recently purchased a J. Mascis Squier Jazzmaster and I love the hell out of it. One problem that I read about was that the high and low E strings are prone to slide off the finger board on these guitars. Stewmac came in clutch with a great selection of nuts that have given this guitar new life.

Big recommend. Easy to install, and easy to sand/clip to fit the instrument.

extreme bang for the buck

I have put these on all three of my mainstay guitars. (000, hd28, telecaster) eliminates nut binding, improves intonation and sustain. I don't know of anything less expensive that could improve a guitar more.

Nice quality and good result but requires custom installation

By

I bought this to address some intonation issues on my Yamaha (along with a compensated saddle). I was expecting this to be plug-and-play but it required customization - sanding the nut's height, width, and depth, and cutting and sanding the fret, as well as finishing work to make it all look good. It was more work than I expected, but the result has been good.

Not easy for Fender style nuts.

By

Instructions are somewhat lacking. Watching the videos online, they were vague and do not cover popular scenarios such as Fender style nut removal. First tap of the hammer broke off the small rear portion of my brand new neck behind the nut. After gluing that back together, there was a glaringly obvious crack in the high gloss finish, but I soldiered on. Had to sand a crazy amount of the zero glide nut until it was almost paper thin to get it to seat firmly with the fret in the tiny Fender slot. I wondered why the string spacing was less than my stock nut, but looking at the nut material that was left by the time I was done, it must be that way to keep the string from breaking off the side of the nut. Once everything was seated, the zero nut did its job and worked as another fret which keeps the action perfect at the lower registers. When people talk about the string creaking that ting, pingy sound when you bend a note and it scrapes the fret is completely true. The product does what it claims, but presents a few of its own issues. I would have taken more stars away if I let my emotions get the best of me. I’ll opt for a bone or Tusq nut in the future.
