Alpha Blend Pots

About This Item

Our unique linear-taper pots control the signal mix from two pickups or sources, panning from one source to another.

250K vs. 500K
Generally, 500K-ohm pots are used with humbuckers and 250Ks are used with single-coil pickups. You can use any value you like, but a 250K will give a slightly warmer tone than a 500K pot. The 250K pot bleeds off (attenuates) some of the high frequencies to ground.

Threaded portion 3/8" (9.52mm)

Successful Experiment with Jaguar Bass

By

This blender plus two Emerson pots and a Fender tone cap transformed the sound of a Squier short-scale Jag bass. With the stock Vol/Vol/Tone controls, I wasn't happy with the balance between the DiMarzio pickups I had installed (Model P in the middle and Ultra Jazz in the bridge). Also, the tone seemed dull and muted. Now, with all-new wiring and electronics, the sound is bigger, richer and bolder. Changing to the blend/vol/tone configuration put a big smile on my face as soon as I plugged in and started playing.

Perfect replacement!

The blend knob that comes with Bartolini preamp harnesses is okay, but became scratchy after years of use. This was the perfect replacement! Smooth, quiet, and properly sized. The shank is appropriate for thicker bodies- I didn't need to shave anything out to make it fit. Only complaint is that the center notch isn't more pronounced when turning the knob.

I was looking for a way to blend my two pickups together, not just switch between them. This pot does that seamlessly. I can have a little front pickup blended in with my back pickup so it adds a bit of bottom to the treble bite too thicken up the sound of my overdrive or blead in some treble into my front pick too give a little edge to my rhythm and anything in between. this thing has given me a lot of tonal options without touching a tone knob, as a matter of fact I removed the tone knob !!

I needed a 500k blend bot, and quickly!
I hit a snag, during wiring, and the Customer Service Dept. worked through the issue, ready to correct the issue. After one change... That Alpha pot was smooth and silent!!! Thanks, as always, Stew-Mac!!!

blend pot is a good idea

This blend pot replaces the pickup selector switch on a 2 pickup guitar (the CTS blend pot is different and is intended for 3 pickup guitars like strats). I prefer it to the switch since it gives more tonal options.

Pickup blends are awesome!

By

I use these in many of my two-pickup guitars, to set up the "both on" switch position with the ability to blend between pickups, so that different blends can be achieved similar to the dual volumes in a Les Paul. I like these so much, I'm converting my Les Paul over to master volume, master tone, blender, and a stacked concentric control to provide separate Q controls using Bill Lawerence's Tone Q filter setup, so I can lighten up the mids/output of the L500 pickups a bit when I want to, as it lightens the sound in a different way than simply dropping the volume control.

The Bomb

Any time I have a guitar of mine or one I'm setting up that has 2 pickups and only one tone and volume knob, there is the obvious opportunity to use one of these blenders. I haven't installed the new ones I bought yet, but they are just like one I have in a PRS guitar, and I am never going back to a three way switch on that one. Now I'm ready for anything.

Does What it is Designed to Do

I wanted to add a Rickenbacker 4003 bass pickup to an Epiphone EBO bass to get some improved clarity and definition to it's sound. I used this Alpha blend pot in a Fender Jazz bass wiring scheme to wire in the Rick pickup in the bridge position (blender pot used instead of selector switch). It really cleaned up and diversified the sound. My future plan is to replace the mudbucker neck pickup with a Curtis Novak EB-AA pickup to get an even cleaner and punchier sound. This has worked so well I may even try the same mod on a telecaster.

Good Quality Product

A friend wanted me to install a balance/blend pot on his Fender Jaguar bass so I found a schematic on the web and checked StewMac for the blend pot. Found the exact part I needed, the 250k, and installed it. Works great and is a good quality pot with a sweet detent in the center. Very Pleased!
