Introducing the New and Improved Deadblow Neck Rest
For decades, pro luthiers and techs have relied on homemade or repurposed sand- or shot filled "fret bags" for stable, shock-absorbing support. Designed by StewMac technical advisor and repair shop veteran Gene Imbody, the Deadblow Neck Rest modernizes that classic solution with a stackable, modular design and a removable, replaceable "pillow top" for extra cushioning and a clean work surface. Keep spare pillows on hand so you always have a fresh surface for those high-value jobs!

Gene Imbody: If you hammer frets, you're going to love the new deadblow neck rest. Tough but forgiving, it can handle all the fret work your shop can dish out. They support and stabilize for pressing, for leveling, crowning, any fret work task that hits your bench.
Stackable and modular, they can be positioned in countless ways to support virtually any instrument in your shop.
I use them for making adjustments in the playing position to elevate guitars off the bench for clamping or simply to protect them from a cluttered workspace. I even use them to steady my hand for precision work and delicate touch-ups.
They're sold as a set of two bags sized to nest together or spread apart for broader support. Whatever the job demands, there's no wrong way to use these bags. And now we've added replaceable pillow tops for extra cushion and a clean, fresh work surface whenever you need it.
These bags are a must have on my bench and once they go to work for you, you'll wonder how you ever got by without them.
