About Basswood (Tilia americana)
A North American tonewood, Basswood works easily with both hand and power tools. The closed grain takes glues and finishes well, you don't even need to use grain filler.

The spalting process happens when the wood is affected by a fungus that causes a completely unique, coloring and patterning to the wood that makes each piece a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Colors, range from browns and blacks on a creamy white background, often interwoven with hundreds of thin black lines.

In terms of workability, spalted woods may require a bit more effort, but the visual payoff is well worth it. The wood can occassionally have small voids, but easily dealt with by filling them with CA or epoxy fillers. Many builders often add dye to the filler to their CA or epoxy fills to enhance the visual effect.

When you looking to build a guitar that will look completely unlike any other, Spalted Basswood is the perfect choice.
