Dunlop Reverend Willy's Electric Guitar Strings

About This Item

Designed in collaboration with Billy Gibbons for Righteous Big Texas Tone!

Soulful, rich, articulate and smooth, Billy Gibbons' big fat Texas tone has been described as "hot, blue, and righteous." Dunlop developed Reverend Willy's Strings in collaboration with Billy himself—aiming to make strings that offer a real punch and still stay articulate and clear when performing his legendary leads and pinch harmonics.

The next time you open up a pack of Dunlop guitar or bass strings, you will notice that they've done away with the plastic bag and desiccant pack in favor of VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor) paper envelopes. These envelopes have VCI technology built into the paper itself, creating a barrier of protection around the string and keeping out moisture and rust. VCI is invisible and leaves no trace on the string. Dunlop Strings come out of the package as fresh as the day they were made.

with how cheap they are, and with how many gauges there are to chose from you cant beat these strings. if you want to just slap some string on and play, these are the ones for you. cheap and reliable. haven't had one break in over 3 years

I know what I'm getting

I wanted strings for set up and repairs that were inexpensive and I knew how they would respond. Most customers leave them on and wear them out before they put their preferred brand on usually without any further need for tweaking the set up. I'm not interested in keeping ulimited varieties of strings on hand. I like them pon cigar box instruments, they seem to add that intangible "homemade" sound.

Super Smooth!

I grabbed a set just to get the packaging :) but they've unfortunately updated that. So while I was a little bummed at that I threw them on for a string change on my Jr., wow I was really impressed. They were super smooth, held tune well and had just the righ resistance for me. Dunlop strings I have tried in the past felt very gritty to me (I mostly use D'A XL's) these were night and day difference and I really loved using them.

Fabulous Tone

In my last post, I incorrectly listed String Height measured at 1st fret. Height is measured at the 8th fret for my set up. Sorry about the mix up.

Fabulous Tone

I used 10-46s on a Vintage 62 Anniversary Strat with a whammy I don't use. To use these Rev Willy's 7-38, I had to adjust my truss rod relief. I like a fairly flat neck. .006 relief at 8th fret. I decked the vibrato unit by screwing in the claw.(I use an oversize weight for better sustain). I adjusted string height for low E to .080 at 1st fret and high E to .064 at 1st fret. Use a Radius gauge and set the other string heights accordingly at the bridge. Intonate Tuned Guitar. END RESULT is OVERWHELMING. The strings bend very easy, sustain real well and are extremely chimy. Best set up I ever did.

I tried a set strings , just to try a different brand from what I normally use .
What I end up with was my new favorite string , gave my guitar a new tone and feel .
I still will use my old favorite brand but now I have another brand.

I had never heard of these strings till I saw them on sale . If BFG has anything to do with them, I'll try them.
I was pleased with the tone.

I have one guitar that uses 9s and decided to give these a try. They were even better than I hoped. The sound is crisp and clear and they feel good to my fingers.

i have run nothing but Ernie's for 30 years, trying others here and there, but these i ended up buying again, good sound and feel. only go up to 10-46, so if you like heavy guage, you're out of luck.

10s comparable to Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's. Just a bit "noisier".
