Precision Router Base

About This Item

A more stable way to support your Dremel. Our sturdy, compact base is the best way to hold a Dremel for freehand routing, inlaying, widening fret slots and more.

Made of machined steel, brass and aluminum, it features precision cutting depth adjustment with large thumbwheels to eliminate guesswork.
Designed especially for stringed instrument work.
  • Excellent control
  • Easy installation
  • Accurate freehand routing
Sturdy, compact, and adjustable.
Each turn of the large knurled thumbwheels adjusts your Dremel's cutting depth by .035" (.889mm). You can rout an inlay cavity that's precisely compensated for the thickness of the pearl and glue, for less sanding later.

Tall twin handles give you excellent control for freehand routing, and you get a good view of your work. There's even a built-in nozzle for attaching a mini air pump to continuously blow away the dust—you'll rout inlay cavities more precisely, for a better fit requiring less filler.

And here's a tip from Dan Erlewine: clamp the Dremel and router base upside-down on your workbench, and use the bottom of the router base as a mini drum sander, as Dan Erlewine did for a Gibson L-1 archtop bridge in this issue of our Trade Secrets Newsletter.

Installation is easy.
Simply unscrew the threaded plastic collar on the nose of the Dremel, and screw on the Precision Router Base. Its 3/4-12 thread fits:
Dremel 100, Dremel 4000, 400XPR, Professional, MultiPro and most corded models made since 1986
Black & Decker Wizard and RTX
Our Foredom custom handpiece

Brilliant tool, incredible customer service

First the tool. It's working just great for me. I made a wood base structure for it to use as a kind of routing table and my main use i had in mind was to use it to cut support channels for my necks (making classical and flamenco guitars) and bridges. All works great and as many have mentioned already, I have used it for loads of other tasks, including many that i hadn't thought of. A+!

Now on to customer service. So impressed.

I found that on the locking nut without the spring, that it was unwinding a touch and then coming off the tool. I was using the router base with it extended out too much I can now see.
It's difficult to explain but where i live and work (northern thai mountains, old trad house high up off the ground, with space between the floorboards) when things fall to the floor they often head down to the ground below. The locking nut fell out a couple times (lesson not yet learned!) and I found it but finally it happened again for real and the jungle had decided to have said locking nut for breakfast.

I got it touch with StewMac and they got back to me quickly and said that they would send out a replacement part with no charge for the part itself or the shipping even though it had nothing to do with any fault in the tool. Right there... that's how you build customer loyalty.

And then... the package got into postage never-never-land,, seemingly lost in the system. After a number of weeks I got in touch and sure enough another part was sent out toot sweet.

The kind fellow I'd been communicating with, after I suggested that if the first part showed up, i'd be happy to mail it back, said not to worry and to keep it as a spare.

Amazing. The first part sent actually did show up after all, perhaps after having a long vacation galavanting around the world.
Lucky part, eh. The rest of us have had to stick to home for more than a year now!

Anyways, that's my story. Thanks so much. I was already a loyal customer, always pleased with the stuff I've ordered and now that loyalty is set in stone.
Cheers

Inlay woodworking

The precision router base provides a less bulky and more precise method for routing delicate inlay than hand held routers. I do not make instruments, so I was unaware of this option until now.

Well made. Fits my Bosch Gro10.8v-li Professional Cordless Rotary Tool perfectly.
I found an edge guide in my shop that fits the Precision Router Base, and the accessory holes will be useful for other shop-made attachments.

There are fancier (and more expensive) bases around, but6 this does the job and does it with precision.

Wow

Used this to cut space for a veneer compass rose on a little Adirondack table. Little stew Mac 1/8” bit. It is really a hoot. Dial in depth and go to town with the Dremel I’ve had forever. Highly recommend.

I'm a old guy!! I have all the material: book, scribe, dreme tool, etc etc but I am yet to do some inlay. I have been playing for 55 years and only into fretting and finishing and building the past ten years. Stewmac has been my guide over the year

Great tool!

I've tried using my Dremel before getting this Router Base and I almost just got rid of the Dremel. This thing is awesome! It is soo worth it and makes the Dremel a great tool for inlays. The only thing better than this is the Plunge Router Base. If you can afford to get the Plunge Base go for it!
