Originating in the Hawaiian islands, Koa (Acacia koa) is a dense tropical hardwood used for guitars and ukuleles since the 1920s. Koa is simply gorgeous, showcasing hues from golden amber to deep browns, blacks, and occasional hints of purple. In the higher grades, Koa boasts some of the most exquisite figuring found in any instrument wood.

It works similar to Mahogany, with highly-figured sets requiring a bit more care. Koa has open pores which will require filling prior to finish.
