Grover 18:1 Sta-Tite (97-18 Series) 3+3 Tuners

About This Item

Grover Sta-Tite™ tuners are a modern version of a vintage design. For 3-left/3-right solid pegheads.

Each tuner features 18:1 gear ratio for fine tuning, a cast baseplate, vintage style scalloped knobs, and nylon worm bearings and tension screw for smooth operation.

Sets of 6 (3-left/3-right). Each set includes mounting screws and knurled press-fit peghead bushings. 11/32" (8.73mm) diameter pegholes required.

Also available for slotted pegheads.

Installation Tips

Bushings: We recommend the #2062 Bushing Reamer (.340" diameter) to cut a clean, accurate counterbore for a professional job. Fit the press-fit tuner bushings correctly so your tuners will work smoothly.

Mounting screws: Pilot holes required. Installing delicate screws into hard wood requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend the #1711 Depth-stop Drill Bit (No.50 bit) for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

My Favorite Tuners

These things are great. They are light, well-made and have 18:1 ratio. I pretty much need an excuse to use anything else now. Also, StewMac shipping is fast - it's nice knowing I won't have to wait for my stuff :-)

11/32" hole too large. Be careful. Not liking press fit bushings. Gonna scrap these and get something better that screws in.

The tuner heads were starting to go on my '57 Les Paul Std and needed replacement. These machine heads are great. Had them on for three days so far, played a lot, and they stayed in perfect tune. Of course, they look real good.

I bought a set for the last guitar I built. I've been playing it for about a year. No issues what so ever, they stay in tune, turn easy and look great.

String breakage issue.

Anyone else had a problem with the Grover Sta-tite tuners and string breakage? I put a new set on a build and broke 2 stings (1st and 3rd) tuning it up. Right at tuning post. I looked closely and the edge of the hole is extremely sharp. I guess I'll dress them a bit but it's some work I wasn't counting on doing. Otherwise the tuners seem ok.

Nice Upgrade!

I installed these on my Martin OOO10e Road Series. The Martin factory tuners just don't perform as well as these tuners. I had installed the equivalent 3 + 3 tuners on an Alvarez slot head and absolutely loved them. I recommend buying the suggested reamer and drill bit. You may consider a tool to press the bushing in as well. I have a similar Grommet tool which did the job well. The existing screw hole on the Martin is an exact match for the Grover bottom hole, so I only needed to drill holes for the top hole. Highly recommend these tuners if you can't justify the Waverly's.
