Precision Router Base

About This Item

A more stable way to support your Dremel. Our sturdy, compact base is the best way to hold a Dremel for freehand routing, inlaying, widening fret slots and more.

Made of machined steel, brass and aluminum, it features precision cutting depth adjustment with large thumbwheels to eliminate guesswork.
Designed especially for stringed instrument work.
  • Excellent control
  • Easy installation
  • Accurate freehand routing
Sturdy, compact, and adjustable.
Each turn of the large knurled thumbwheels adjusts your Dremel's cutting depth by .035" (.889mm). You can rout an inlay cavity that's precisely compensated for the thickness of the pearl and glue, for less sanding later.

Tall twin handles give you excellent control for freehand routing, and you get a good view of your work. There's even a built-in nozzle for attaching a mini air pump to continuously blow away the dust—you'll rout inlay cavities more precisely, for a better fit requiring less filler.

And here's a tip from Dan Erlewine: clamp the Dremel and router base upside-down on your workbench, and use the bottom of the router base as a mini drum sander, as Dan Erlewine did for a Gibson L-1 archtop bridge in this issue of our Trade Secrets Newsletter.

Installation is easy.
Simply unscrew the threaded plastic collar on the nose of the Dremel, and screw on the Precision Router Base. Its 3/4-12 thread fits:
Dremel 100, Dremel 4000, 400XPR, Professional, MultiPro and most corded models made since 1986
Black & Decker Wizard and RTX
Our Foredom custom handpiece

I'm a old guy!! I have all the material: book, scribe, dreme tool, etc etc but I am yet to do some inlay. I have been playing for 55 years and only into fretting and finishing and building the past ten years. Stewmac has been my guide over the year

I've tried using my Dremel before getting this Router Base and I almost just got rid of the Dremel. This thing is awesome! It is soo worth it and makes the Dremel a great tool for inlays. The only thing better than this is the Plunge Router Base. If you can afford to get the Plunge Base go for it!

Still getting used to the tool. Strong springs and sturdy base with adjustment for tIghter controls. Higher visibility of tools cutting operation provides increased confidence in use. Enables precision cuts not capable with a long router and more.precise than hand tools in the hands of most craftsmen . I am pleased with this tool and the increased capabilities it provides me.

Great Dremel Accessory

I bought this to turn my Dremel tool into a router. I have a Dremel plunge router base but it has too much slop for precise work. It is also too big for thisI need to rout out tear out damage on a classical guitar in order to glue a repair in-lay. The router base is very well made and there is 0 movement of the cutting tool when the depth setting is locked in. very precise depth adjustment is possible due to fine threads on adjustment side and the set depth can be locked in very easily. Flat sides on the base make it easy to use with a guide such as a metal square or other straight edge.

One of the best investments I've made

The previous base i was using with my Dremel hid a lot of the pattern and the open design of this base really lets the light in and exposes the work really well. The stability and rigid design helps stabilise the tool and improves the quality of the routing.

Absolutely one of the best investments i've made in small hand tools - to date.
