Soundhole and Rosette Routing Jig

About This Item

Design update: now works for ukuleles, too!
Cut perfect soundholes and rosette channels for guitars and ukes.

Easy and accurate, this jig now adjusts from 6"-diameter to a small 2" cut for ukuleles.

Another innovation from StewMac
The Soundhole and Rosette Routing Jig is a quality machined tool, designed to be used with our Precision Router Base and works with your Dremel. Router base and rotary tools are not included.

  • Solid aluminum and brass parts
  • Adjusts from 2" to 6"-diameter cuts (50.8mm to 152.4mm)
  • Indexing scale to quickly set routing diameter
  • 3/16" registration pin for perfectly concentric circles
  • Mounting screws and instructions included

How it works
Attach the jig to the router base, then mount your Dremel or Foredom tool. Insert the registration pin through the center of the uncut soundhole, and into your work surface. Place the jig on the pin. Set the diameter of cut with the adjusting screw, and lock it down. The router base adjusts the cutting depth. Rout your rosette rings first, then cut out the soundhole.

For the cleanest cut when routing tonewoods, we recommend the Carbide Downcut Bits.

Great Jig

By

I have used several methods for routing the rosette trough and cutting the sound hole. This jig combined with the plunge router base is by far the easiest and most accurate method I've ever used. In fact, its so easy compared to other methods, I kinda feel like I'm cheating. Very glad I got this!!!!

One of the best and accurate tools on my bench.

Acceptable

As always Stewmac always has the best tools. Sometimes on the expensive side but well worth it. This tool is no exception, however the screw on the end that adjusts the radius is bent, not enough to ruin the tool but enough to be annoying, especially for the price paid. Not enough of a problem to return and get a new one but just a message to stewmac to double check and perhaps wrap this tool better to prevent this for future buyers.

The tool is good, but you have to have the plunge stand. This jig requires the other piece.

Very accurate!

Initially, I was concerned about the fit of the 3/16" steel pin into the brass fitting hole on the jig. It seemed that it could be a better fit, have less wiggle. However, it does not appear to be a problem. I have installed my first Rosette and it is a perfect fit in my Spruce Top!
It's well made and well designed!
I highly recommend it.

Easy as can be

I’ve made several guitars, but only arched tops and f-holes. This build is an acoustic...my first round sound hole for the rosette and purfling. Apprehensive, but this tool made it very easy.

Just Received

I just purchased this and have no doubt it will work well. However, having taken it out of the box and readied it for use, I'm wondering a couple of things...1) Why not add millimeter/centimeter markings on the opposite side of the inches? I'm in the U.S., but will often use mm. 2) Why not add a mark/arrow to either side of the pin denoting center so as to make using the measurements more useful? The current inch markings seem useless without a reference. Am I missing something?

You can do without it, but you can't match the precision

Waited too long and had many near misses with carefully selected acoustic tops.
Finally i treated myself to the best rosette cutting tool there is!
Awesome precision and years of perfect work to come.
