Dragon Hand-cut Rasp

About This Item

Fast working, super-smooth cut.
Unequaled for neck shaping and contouring.

Dragon handcrafted steel rasps have become our first choice for quickly shaping instrument necks, solidbody guitar contours, custom jigs and clamping cauls.

Double-cut rasp has two different radii for quickly shaping a neck heel or the base of a peghead.

Dragon rasp teeth are individually hand-struck on both sides of each file, leaving a slightly random pattern that a machine-made rasp simply can't equal. This reduces chattering and "wandering," giving a smooth but aggressive cut.

Dragon rasps have the right shapes for contouring a variety of neck sizes.

Use the coarse rasp to quickly shape:
• Solidbody contours
• Necks and bridges
• Jigs and cauls

Follow with the fine rasp for:
• Final shaping
• Smoothing
• Softening corners

Large 10" long x 1-5/8" wide   (254mm x 41.28mm)
Small 6" long x 1-3/16" wide (152mm x 30.16mm)
Double-radius 7" long x 7/8" wide (178mm x 22.22mm)

Needs a handle

By

Verified Buyer

I love the rasp. Smooth action without grabbing. It gives very nice finish ready for sanding with 150 if you use a light touch. My complaint is that the tang is very long and skinny and I can't find a handle that really fits it properly. When I ordered this I wasn't thinking I would have to make my own handle. StewMac should sell handles that fit these or as a minimum list a couple readily available handles that fit properly in the item description.

So great I bought another!

Really love these rasps. I have the Large Coarse and the Double-radius Fine. I've used these for banjo and 'ukulele neck shaping. The Large Coarse is a must have and I find it can be aggressive and gentle when you need it. I use the smaller double-radius fine just for the trickier spots.

Great Rasps

I just got these, cleaned them and put them to use immediately. They are quick and do an amazing job of removing material. But, they are easily controllable so you get the shape you want.

Now I understand what I’ve been missing!

I’ve been a professional woodworker for just over 50 years. Have had the privilege of knowing many outstanding artisans who did much of their finest detailing with rasps & files, & I couldn’t imagine how.

Now that I’ve tried Dragon Rasps, I get it!

Pricey? Yes they are. Over priced? Emphatically Not!

If you are, or aspire to be a Luthier, boatbuilder, sculptor, or to experience the pleasure of true hands-on woodwork, get the entire set of Dragon Rasps.

One of the best tool I ever bought

I have had this tool for a couple years. Many Mandolins and a couple guitars with it. Carving a neck, no problem. Do not understand anyone not loving this tool.

Must Have!

Started building guitars from my teacher (Dennis Hill) and so far I’ve only really needed two tools. This and a dozuki hand saw. This is a great rasp. Curved side is the heels worst nightmare lol. Highly recommend!

Dragon file Rocks!

By

Verified Buyer

Seriously, this is the best file for fine shaping. I use a heavier rasp or a spokeshave for the rough cuts, but this file does the finish work. some 220 after that and your pretty much done. I only have the rough cut dragon file. I have the fine one at work, but this one does the bulk of the work.
