Fingerboard Band Clamp

About This Item

An ingenious idea borrowed from violinmakers, these economical clamps are a quick, efficient way to glue a fingerboard onto a neck.

Fingerboard Band Clamps are a quick way to glue a fingerboard without cumbersome cauls, and a practical solution for radiused fingerboards. The toothed outer surface of the flexible glue-resistant band engages a threaded plastic thumbnut that adjusts the clamping pressure. The flexible cradle conforms to the instrument's neck to help protect the finish.

We recommend positioning a band clamp every 3" along the fingerboard.

They do the job for me

By

I like em for my fret board installation. I build cigar box guitars and use these clamps when gluing my fretboards . I made a half round caul so there are no sharp edges to damage the clamps.i put the clamps on and they center the fretboard to the neck, as the fretboard is squeezed by the clamp it is aligned with the neck. Then I use my c clamps in between.

Great Clamps

By

Don't tighten the bejesus out of these when clamping, and the'll work great. Make a caul to lay on the fingerboard also, to round off the angle over the edges.

I noticed some have given these a bad review at the StewMac site. I'm figuring those that do are cranking them way too hard, trying to use them as a replacement for good wood joining skills. I bought my first ones about 3 years ago, and the plastic straps are just now starting to fatigue and break, and that's after hundreds of fingerboard replacements (it's a guitar rebuilding/restoration business). I've just bought a new batch...PS. These are an industry standard in the violin world.

One slight modification makes huge difference

I added a "half moon" wooden disk on the top side of the fretboard so there is a less steep angle where the clamp meets the fret board

It's ok

By

Verified Buyer

Just like the title says, it's ok. It is kind of a pain to use. The locking nut is hard to turn when you start getting tight. The whole thing is hard to get over large head stocks. Once in place it does hold well. As they break or ware I will not replace them.

useful for dove tail jig neck hold down

drilled holes along the home made plywood jig for the dovetail templates and threaded this through. They hold the neck snugly on the jig while I route the dove tail.

My “ Go To”

By

These are my “go to” clamps when wanting to align a broken headstock or fingerboard . They tighten up very well. You can never have too many... i used 6 to glue an upright bass fingerboard. Flawless

Very disappointed

Don’t waste your time with these. They are very difficult to work with. Don’t ignore all the negative reviews like I did! Very disappointed.

Sad outcome

By

Verified Buyer

Not only did these not apply enough pressure to securely clamp a fingerboard, they stripped once tight, and were a pain to remove. By the time I had 5 mounted the glue was already tacked up, and even adding more clamps did not help the outcome. These clamps also mar anything they touch so be very careful.

What a disaster

By

These take forever to tighten, by the time you get them clamped down your glue is dry... have to leave them open enough to pass over the headstock. Then takes forever to get them secured, too many turns and hard to turn.

Actually a good item...

... but I must say that taking simple fabric Velcro stripes is much more convenient to me. Maybe I can use that fingerboard band clamps for other jobs.
