Locking Contour Gauge

About This Item

Copy any curve or neck profile EXACTLY!
With the Locking Contour Gauge you can match any neck, curve, or tricky radius that comes into your shop.

When carving a neck from scratch, many times you'll have a favorite you want to copy. Now it's easy to match all the curves anywhere on a neck.

One of our favorite features of this handy tool is the lock. With a single lever flick, the shape you've copied is held firmly in place—no slipping or sliding.

It's not just for necks
This tool really earns its keep in other ways too. Need to make a custom shaped clamping caul? Done! Making an arm bevel? Instantly get the inside curve of the body. Once you have it, you'll find a million and one uses for this tool.

great instrument

I used this to profile a neck to match one on my 46 year old D-41 Martin. This is guitar I've owned for 41 years and have enjoyed the playability of it. The neck has a fret board with curly maple binding and the same on the headstock along with beautiful pearl inlay. I'm sure I'll use this to profile other necks the same way.

Not very accurate.

The main issue comes from the shape of th "teeth" ; once contoured it's difficult to report the shape on a paper.

Excellent tool!

I have an older General USA pin gauge I’ve used for quite some time, but the pins tend to slip.

The Stewmac locking contour gauge improved upon a majority of those issues with a useful locking system that helps lock in the countered shapes nicely.

For around the same price of a General pin-gauge at the hardware store, this one goes the extra mile in my opinion.

I recommend this tool.

Locking feature is great; could be longer overall and the ends of the "fingers" are oddly shaped

I've got several contour gauges in my tool collection. Several I devised myself. None but this one have a locking feature--other than the friction that holds the pins in place--which is something I've always thought all such tools should have.
I'd rate it 5 stars were it twice as long--at least--and if the ends of the "fingers" were not so oddly shaped. There are no instructions with the tool so the reason for the complicated shape of the ends of these critical parts (if there is one) is unclear at best.
