About This Item

The fastest and most profitable fret work ever!
When you've got a guitar with a high fret or a few spots that are buzzing, we have the solution for you. You know the story: a customer's guitar plays great and is set up perfectly, but ONE fret is too high and is causing buzzing. We made the Fret Kisser to solve this problem easily, accurately, and FAST!

Now you can do accurate and cost effective fretwork quickly! You don't even need to remove the strings.

The Fret Kisser spot levels high frets in an instant. What was a several hour job can be done in no time at all, you only file exactly where it's needed.

Everyday in your shop you have customers that can't afford costly fret work, or have an inexpensive guitar they don't want to spend a lot of money on. You can finally help these customers with setup and leveling that is fast for you and affordable for them.

Level just the fret you need
Spot leveling is difficult, especially when you need to level just one fret and avoid the frets around it. Now you can pinpoint the fret that's high and level it with no danger of affecting the other frets.

There is no other tool on the market that can level just one fret as precisely and quickly as the Fret Kisser.

Diamond coated, accurate, and easy
The concept is simple. We started with our Fret Rocker, which locates high frets easily, and made it thicker and heavier. In the middle of each section we added 300 grit diamond abrasive to quickly bring the fret level with its neighbors.

You have four different sides to zero-in just on the fret you need, no matter where you are on the fretboard. Each side is a precision ground straight edge. You'll only file exactly where it is needed.

Think of all the time you'll save leveling high-frets, without having to remove the strings or tape the board to do the leveling.

A road tech's dream
The Fret Kisser is a great tool for traveling guitar techs. With cramped space backstage, in hotel rooms, and tour buses, this tool lets you address fret issues with accuracy and get the guitar back in service.

And, if that's not enough—it's also great for refrets too. Knock down any extra high frets before leveling the entire board for faster and more accurate leveling right from the start. You won't have to spend extra time "catching up" some frets. If you are new to fretwork, this little tool is insurance for the occasional mistake.

Grab a Fret Kisser and kiss high frets goodbye!

Great tool!

This 'fret kisser' is such a simple and effective idea. I had an acoustic with one high fret. It was quickly leveled between the adjacent frets. Much easier and faster than marking with the sharpie, filing, checking, filing, checking, etc.

Great, but don't use it to spread mayonnaise

Great tool! Makes it possible to do only the specific fret detailing needed to attain the right action. Saved hours! Did not work well as a mayonnaise spreader. Other condiments fared poorly as well.

Expensive CAN$ (4 stars) but great tool (5 stars)

I had to level 2 high frets after a complete refretting job done by a luthier. Even an expert can miss 1 or 2 high frets. It was easy and safe to fix it with the Fret Kisser. I also used the Understring file to crown the fret. Always use the Sharpie trick to make sure to leave a fine line on top. Then the fret is ready to polish. No more high frets, no more buzz. Easy and safe. How long will last the diamond coating...I don’t know but so far, it works perfectly.

I just used it on a new neck that I bought. It works really well.

Best investment!

The Fret Kisser is quickly becoming my favorite tool in the shop. Being able to Fret a neck and go directly to clearing high spots without leveling the whole neck leads to less fret material removal and a more accurate fret job.

This Kisser, combined with the Leveler, is a 1-2 Fret Knockout.

This tool, combined with the Leveler, are perfect companions to get to the bottom of close-tolerance fret issues on any fingerboard. There are a couple reasons why:
1) When doing a complete re-fret, once the new frets are in place and glued-in(if you choose to do so), you can mark any offending high spots with the Leveler, then chase them with the Kisser. By finding the initial high frets spots, it allows you to take the MINIMUM amount of material off the offending crowns, and not affect other adjacent frets. Think about this as an "interim" stage of leveling, where you are spot leveling offending crowns and staying off everything else. This way maximum material is preserved and you get more consistent fret crown height, assuming you've done your homework to initially level the board in the first place.
2) the Leveler, in tandem with the Kisser, will allow you to spot-level any fretboard in REAL TIME: i.e. with strings tuned-to-pitch, in playing position. Do you have a rattle in the low register between frets 2 and 5? This tandem system will allow you do find the offending high spot(s) and deal with them quickly and minimally.
StewMac: My only criticism is that the Kisser should have lines (not just small notches)on either side of the tool which mark the boundaries of where the diamond is, so as to not "overshoot" the work area/troublespot. If those marks where in place, you'd have a perfect tool. Thanks Again for continuing to innovate!

Fret Kisser

I'm a guitar player of 30+ years. I have started to do more guitar tech activities for my guitars and friends. I tried this out on a few different guitars with great results. This is relatively expensive but it feels like of appropriate quality to the cost. It does not seem to show any significant wear after probably leveling 15 - 20 frets. That's not a lot yet. If this device last several years I would consider this a great deal. It is very quick and easy to use. As those of you who have been doing this for a while, fixing uneven frets on a guitar (provided that everything else is already addressed) really can make an amazing difference in the feel and sound of the guitar

such a time saver

yes its not cheep , but its so much faster and easier to level one or two high frets instead of leveling the whole fret board ! combined with the Z file for crowning this was a fast fix.

Lacks accuracy in my picky book, but still a huge time saver

Sorry for my approximative english.

I had to return the first one I received, due to approximative machining of the diamond filing zones, which were too receded from the "safe" areas (about 02/64in. receded and slightly curved).

The replacement one I received is kinda OK (less than 01/64in. receded filing zones, but nowhere near the accuracy I'm used to when performing fretjobs (color me anal, it's ok).

Still, I consider this tool as a lifesaver despite it's flaws. It's so easy and fast to "get almost there" when leveling the odd high fret, and it's foolproof too! You can't overdo it (file too deep), which is IMO the best quality this tool.

Considering the amount of fretwork in my shop, this tool paid for itself in less than two weeks from the time saved.

I just wish machining was as top-notch as Stewmac leveling beams and fret rocker, so no additional fine filing was required before crowning.
