Tune-o-Medic Bridge and Tailpiece Tools

About This Item

Installing, adjusting, and replacing Tune-o-matic guitar bridges and 'stop' tailpieces is daily work in busy guitar shops.

Our new Tune-o-Medic tools — the Bridge Jack, Post Tool and Stop Tailpiece Wrench — make the work faster and easier!

Sold individually or SAVE when you buy the set of all three tools.

Tune-o-Medic Bridge Jack
Adjust Tune-o-matic bridges quickly without loosening the strings — using the same tool Gibson used in their original Kalamazoo factory. Lift a Tune-o-matic with this jack and you can adjust the thumbscrews up or down freely, and without pressure from the strings you'll no longer damage the plating on the hardware.

With the Bridge Jack, you can even hold the guitar in the playing position and jack up the bridge with one hand while watching the 12th-fret action — when it looks right, spin the thumbwheel to hold that height.

The stainless steel Bridge Jack includes thick self-adhesive felt padding to help protect the guitar top. An extra pad and instructions are included.

Tune-o-Medic Post Tool
When Tune-o-matic bridge posts are bent, the bridge leans and intonation suffers. It becomes hard to turn the thumbwheels to set the bridge height, and the threaded posts may even be uncomfortable against the player's hand. The Post Tool makes it easy to remove, install or straighten these posts.

Interchangeable threaded brass inserts (6-32 thread for Gibson, and M4 x.7 thread for imports) snap into the Post Tool's handle. Simply thread the tool onto the post until it's flush against the thumbwheel, tighten the wheel against the tool, and hold the two together to turn the post for installation, removal, or height adjustment.

Instructions are included — we also include matching drill bits for correctly reinstalling the posts in new holes when needed.

Stop Tailpiece Wrench
The Stop Tailpiece Wrench has a thick screwdriver tip recessed into a smooth-walled socket that fits the 1/2" (12.70mm) diameter tailpiece stud snugly. The socket keeps the wrench centered, to protect the stud's plating and avoid accidents that could mar the guitar top. Made of tool steel, with a durable plastic handle. Our thanks to guitar techs Paul Verticchio and Jerry Barnstable for suggesting this tool.

Overall length is 7-3/4" (196.85mm). Inside diameter of the socket is 17/32" (13.49mm). This tool will work on tailpiece studs with 17/32" (13.49mm) maximum diameter.

Aghhhh... Stop Tailpiece Wrench only for Gibson

By

The Stop Tailpiece Wrench is great for Gibson but is just a bit too wide for Epiphone, D'Angelico and LTD. I work as a tech and need a tool that fits them all. If the blade of this driver had been made a hair slimmer it would fit them all, but now it only fits the Gibson hardware. I don't believe it would be damaging to the Gibson hardware if it was a hair slimmer. At least, perhaps StewMac should offer a separate tool with a slightly slimmer blade that would fit non-Gibson hardware (perhaps also with a different color handle, for quick identification). I would highly encourage StewMac to come up with this slightly different size tool, after all I think there are more non-Gibson guitars out there than Gibson, so the non-Gibson variation of the tool would be very useful for techs.

Hope this makes sense

Excellent Tools

These are well thought out tools that make installing and adjusting tune-o-matic bridges much easier and safer for the guitar top.
I held off getting them due to price, but now I realize that I should have invested in them much sooner.
Another StewMac win.

Another MUST HAVE tool

By

This piece is extremely helpful during setups. You've checked all your measurements, restrung the guitar and test play it , only to find your notes are choking out on whole step bends, even though you've double checked your frets for eveness.

So, you want to nudge the string height up jus a bit but can't get a good grip in the knobs at the bridge due to pressure. This tool gently lifts the bridge, freeing up the ht.adjust knobs without scratching the finish that may happen with a screwdriver.

Another MUST HAVE tool for your work bench.

Bridge jack

After trying to make one of these myself, I purchased this reluctantly (because of the price).
It’s an indispensable tool for adjusting the bridge height without loosening the strings, a real time saver. It’s a little awkward to use at first but you soon learn exactly where to place it.
Would recommend this tool to anyone owning a guitar with a tune-o-matic bridge.

"Worry eliminators"

Had to re-attach a gold-plated Tune-o-matic bridge. No scatches!
These tools are very solidly made and a pleasure to use.

The bridge jack is *much* sturdier than it looks in the photos--
I could never have made one as strong. Action adjustments
can now be done with much less stress on the thumbwheels and
bridge posts. Five stars!

Post Tool is a must-have. You can feel if a post is wobbly and
when installing a post, it's much easier to keep it perpendicular.
Five stars!

The Stop Tailpiece Wrench is good but not perfect. It fits Gibson
but the blade is too thick for some other brands (e.g., Washburn).
However, it should handle 90% of stop-tails is extremely sturdy.
You do need to note the position of the blade when inserting the
wrench to line it up with the slot--the collar makes this a bit difficult.
(Rotating the blade until it drops in the slot is likely to scratch soft
plate, but might be OK for bare steel screws.) Four stars!

Maybe StewMac should offer this wrench in two blade thicknesses?
Also,a revised version with a transparent plastic collar would be just
as functional and easier to use.

Solved my Problem Finally!

The tailpiece screwdriver is fantastic... I had tried other alternatives such as pennies, nickels and flat head screwdrivers wrapped in electrical tape but they all damaged the studs... This is a perfect tool for the job. Thank you SM!
