Unbleached Bone Nuts

Unbleached Bone Nuts

Stewart-MacDonald is your source for quality bone!
Bone is traditionally favored for quality instruments. Our unbleached bone is even harder than bleached white bone, and has a mottled cream vintage look. Its hardness and density contributes to good tone, it polishes well, and it allows more precise slot filing.

Blank nuts have oversize length and height, for custom shaping in your shop. They're ready for trimming, filing, sanding and slotting.

Preshaped nuts will save you a LOT of work — a head start for the novice builder, and a bonus for the busy repair shop where time is money! The dimensions have been carefully researched, and minor trimming, slotting, and sanding are all that's needed to fit most popular guitars.

Best nut material

In my opinion bone is the best nut material. It’s workable and has improved the tone and volume of every instrument that I have replaced the nut on with bone.

These are dense and flawless, and provide a stunning look on an older instrument. They take a polish beautifully.

My favorite material hands down.

By

I'm only taking away one star because they give you all this excess material that gets cut away, ground off and thrown out which costs me a lot of time and work which gets gets frustrating.
With that out of the way, the most important part is the material itself. It's very hard, durable, and toneful.
Tuning stability is as good as anything out there; what I've learned from years using of graphite, bone and Tusq is that it's down to how nice the work is. no material can compensate for sloppy, lazy work. Besides, after about 1988 there were no more true graphite nuts, just graphite particles mixed with various versions of soft to medium hard plastics. Sound toneful to you? I'll stop short of calling graphite nuts as a whole a sham, but JUST short.
Tone is another matter, and to my ears bone has richer mids and more sustain, and being rock hard and smooth when polished it's good for trems, never mind what anyone says; again, it's down to the work being done.
They say unbleached is harder and I guess that would make sense. I prefer the look too.
If you've never tried these, you should, especially if you're 20 years down the graphite rabbit hole; you'll be very pleased.

Nice Tone

Excellent quality and no buzz. The tone on the acoustic guitar was a measurable improvement over the stock plastic nut.

Unbleached is so natural Looking

By

Verified Buyer

I got some of these for my Taylor and Martins. The nuts look like they should have been this color from the factory. I don't know if they add to my tone, as I'm not that good at hearing the small differences. But the look is worth the price and effort. StewMac has always met my needs for fast shipping and correcting any error (i only have one case that happened but it was awesome Cust Servce). Quality and service you can trust!

Unbleached nuts for my maestro sg

The nuts worked very well as I had to expoxy the blank and pre slotted nut together to get desired
thickness.

Angle is great.

By

Verified Buyer

I have used these before and they fit that angled slot very nicely. The guitar I bought this batch for needed a tweak due to a previous luthier altering the slot. Not the nut's fault.
