The adjustable saddles on the late '50s and '60s acoustics are made out of wood or ceramic; this design limited the tone and projection of these otherwise great guitars. These saddles (and the sometimes plastic bridges) can make these guitars sound very "dead".
Many replace the entire bridge to a more traditional glued-on bridge, which can hurt the resale value of an all original guitar.
