Mini S-Style Electric Guitar Kit

About This Item

Have a little fun and make a little noise!
Build a REAL guitar this weekend. This is not a toy or wall hanger, this mini-guitar is a real instrument that you'll have a lot of fun building and playing for years to come.

Want to make something totally unique that's a blast to play? You can't go wrong with the Mini S-Style Kit. It's just like its big brother but with a shorter scale and tuned an octave above conventional tuning. You can play all the same chords and scales you know with a completely new tone.

Looking for a super-easy first build?
If you've been on the fence about trying your first guitar build, this kit is just what you need. Everything comes pre-routed—the bridge location is already pre-drilled. Each neck is fit to each pocket for a super tight neck joint.

And, it's a one day build. Open the box in the morning and you'll be playing by afternoon. If you have a coffee table, you've got enough space to build this simple kit.

Don't let the size fool you
This guitar sounds and plays just like a full scale guitar. Everything from the nut width (1-5/8") to the electronics and hardware are the same size as traditional Strat-style guitars (other than the neck plate). While everything is perfect right out of the box, it's easy to make this guitar your own. From vintage vibe to crazy modern, you can customize this guitar exactly how you want.

Mini S-Style Electric Guitar Kit includes:
  • Mahogany body, ready for final sanding and finishing
  • Body is pre-routed and drilled for the proper placement of the neck, pickups, control cavity and bridge
  • Pre-fretted mahogany neck with blank peghead and pre-installed truss rod
  • 16.3" (414mm) scale length with 1-5/8" nut width
  • Pre-installed fingerboard inlays
  • Slotted nut
  • Sealed tuners
  • White pickguard (3-ply laminated w/b/w)
  • Pickups, pots, and switch are pre-wired for easy installation
  • Output jack
  • Classic Strat-style hardtail bridge and chrome hardware
  • Setup adjustment wrenches
  • Strings
  • Detailed instructions written specifically for this kit

Explore new sounds!
This little guitar sounds great in multiple tunings due to the shorter scale. For a totally new but familiar tone, we've enjoyed tuning these one octave up in standard, A to A (like a capo at the 5th fret), and all sorts of open tunings. Find what inspires you.

Good for a friend

A friend of mine had surgery on his hands and he hasn't been playing guitar at all. I bought a mini strat kit hoping that it was small enough for his left hand. It was enough of a bug to have him start playing guitar again. Thanks.

First Build!

Wanted to try my hand with a less expensive guitar. VERY happy with the results. All parts fit perfectly so I was able to focus on the finish. Good quality wood through out. Laminated wood veneer to the pick guard to make a more "wooden" appearance, and happy with the finish.
One thing: this guitar MUST be tuned an octave above a standard guitar. No way around that I can see. Tried heavier gauge strings, but didn't work.
I gotta say, ALL my grandkids may be getting one for Christmas!

Very nice

I bought it for a “father&son” moment during the Covid lockdown
It seems to be very solid and well done
The wood is already quite smooth
We started yesterday to grind it lightly
Hope to finish it soon!!!

First guitar build - Great for price...and 5-year olds!

By

My parents got this for my 5-year old for Christmas (something he had been asking for since I showed him) and he loves it....and I can rest easy he is beating the strings on this one rather than the other guitars hanging up in the house.

Directions were easy enough, didn't realize all the stain equipment was sold separately, but StewMac had everything I needed. As mentioned, was the first guitar I have ever built and stain sunburst (black-blue-green) I had ever done...Came out nice for a novice luthier, and the kid and I can properly "play band" now.

Grain filler didn't completely work as expected after following directions, pits still show after the final coat of poly (ended up at 8 total) and grain ended up raising again after staining...so total, I think I sanded everything a total of 6 times with 320, 800, and 1500 grit.

Tuning was a little bit of a challenge as mentioned in other reviews, but ended up at: B, E, A, D, F#, B. After adjusting the truss, saddles and intonation, it plays very well for what it is...would build again.

Great bonding with my grandson..

When my grandson - now four years old, was born, he was obsessed with guitars. For the first three years he seemingly always had one is his hands...even two sometimes! The last year was a little different with so many distractions with all the toys but he still showed some interest. I bought this to see if I could boost his interest and for me, it was a really great experience having him help me at each stage. He picked the paint job from several choices. I found the finishing time consuming and other than my grandson becoming impatient, "when can we build it?", I enjoyed the process. The assembly was a piece of cake. I've never done this before and I am pleased with the guitar. I have to put strings on it and plug it in, but so far so good.

Nice little guitar

The body is mahogany which is nice, needs some sanding. If you want a smooth paint finish grain should be filled with grain filler. Body should be shielded. Fret ends are sharp. Would be nice if stewmac had a list of items you might want to finish your guitar. Grain filler, shielding, fret file, fret erasers, finish sanding pads, wipe on poly, etc. For neck, etc.

Building was fun

The wooden parts and hardware are very good.
I don't understand why there are such cheap strings in the kit. The strings are completely intertwined, they are hard to loosen and of course the high E-string broke when I first wind it up. You also don't know what thickness the strings have. Be sure to order a set of strings with the kit.
The pickups did not convince me either, but that is a matter of taste.

I ordered a Mini-S

To me."
Took my time, got it done

Building this little thing
Was a blast
Got it strung up,
Ready to go
Wouldn't stay tuned
Breaking strings right and

Got I straight, now it's fine
I play this little beauty
All the time.

The instructions are good
Crept for two places
Which string tee got which spacer
And the wiring to the jack
In the kit did not look
The part and I didn't like
The jack so I got
Another (sorry this doesn't rhyme so
Well, but life can be a ...)
