Enjoyed building this one

I built the 335 kit last year and learned a lot from it. I jumped on this one to add a Les Paul style to the Arsenal. I tried to fix all of my mistakes from the last build in this one and was very pleased with the result. With some attention to detail these are great kits and produce great guitars.

Top quality kit

I like building things. This is the 6th kit I have ordered from stewmac. I am holding off on building this one so my son can look it over and have it set up correctly. I'm sure it will sound good and be a good looking guitar to boot.

This kit is amazing

Finished up last weekend. Upgraded with a used Epiphone bridge and Grover tuners. Can’t believe how it sounds and plays. The stock pickups in the kit can play country, rock, blues, jazz, metal. The neck was pretty straight out of the box and plays fast. Learned how to use metallic spray. It was a challenge to get the flame top to take a even coat. The sustain is as good as it gets.

Great kit!

The StewMac kits are very high quality kits. I ordered the LP style kit with the curly maple top. The figure in the grain is top notch and the guitar is well made. The guitar came fretted and bound and the workmanship was well above what I expected. The big thing I really like about this kit is that it is a perfect introduction into the world of building guitars. I am extremely pleased with the kit! I will definitely be ordering others!!

Love it

I’m super happy with it! It did have a slight twist in the neck, so I Clamped it down To bend it the right way, then laid a metal ruler over the frets-and an iron on top of that. After about 15mins I turned the iron off and let everything cool down And it was straight:)

It goes together, but...

This was my first kit build, and for the most part it went pretty smoothly. However, the kit came with some pretty bad flaws. One of the tuning machine holes is drilled out of line with the others on head stock, making it look pretty sloppy. The routs for the pickups and the control cavities were also pretty sloppy, I can't get my neck pickup ring to cover the rout completely, and the covers on the back don't sit flush with the body. The holes for the bridge were also drilled angled out from each other, so it took a good deal of effort to get the the bridge onto the posts, and the tension makes it hard to adjust the bridge height. The tuners I got were of really inconsistent quality, with a few of them being virtually unusable.

Otherwise the components are of usable quality, and once I finally got it setup it plays pretty nicely.

First guitar build: I loved it!

With this kit, patience, and a lot of reading and watching videos on YouTube, I built my first guitar! I think the StewMac team has done a really great job here. Everything seemed well made and clearly separated and labeled. I love the spalted top-- it's very eye-catching, a great conversation starter, and makes my guitar feel unique.

This is a great kit for a first-time guitar build! If you're considering it, give it a try! With no luthier experience and little woodworking experience, I made an instrument I can play and be proud of.

Thanks, StewMac!

Great pattern on Spalted Top

By

My wife bought this for my birthday. It's the 4th kit I've made, I did make a few adjustments to the accessories i.e. I used Kluson lockable Tuners and Wilkinson Pickups and fitted a bone nut. I was extremely impressed with the spalted pattern in the top which when spray varnished finished beautifully. Really impressed with the finish and the sound.
Excellent customer service. Many thanks again

Meh...its ok

I liked that the neck angle seems to be setup by stew mac. However, the flame maple cap leaves alot to be desired. I found areas where the cap is coming up from the body causing a bubble, also looks like there was a 4 inch crack on the cap and it was re-glued. Now there is a ton of dried glue on the top where my stain isn't going to take. Very disappointing. Another issue I found was the nut. Looks to me like there is neck binding underneath it causing it to be extremely high. I probably should have sent it back. I will have to think twice before purchasing another from stew mac.
