Beautiful

The overall quality is nice. Solid mahogany neck with good grain, mahogany and maple body with flamed maple veneer is beautiful. Pock, pickup cavities, control cavities are spot on. Fret work was good. The hardware is what you would have expected from a kit in this price range. Cheap dime sized pots, loose tuners, ok wires. I would recommend buying good pots, wires, strings, tuners, switches, output jack, bridge...[all the hardware] I used the kit's frets and bridge, but replaced all other hardware. It's a beautiful kit. It's worth the price. I would recommend this product.

This was such a fun experience

I bought this for myself because I was looking for a little project to spend time on. I was more than happy with it all. Aside from a few cheap preparation things the kit is pretty much complete. The paint and everything is just enough and the assembly wasn’t so bad (from a person who’s never done this before). I would buy again.

This is a follow up from my first review of my finished product. It turned out fantastic

Great Kit, good value.

I’ve just completed the finish on this kit. There is a lovely flamed maple veneer. The reason it’s a 4 star review and not 5 is that there was a glue residue around the rim of the guitar which was very difficult to remove. Other than that it’s a great kit.

Stewmac is amazing. Initially, I was sent a neck that was missing a side dot inlay. The sent me the fix! Then, by my own fault, the guitar fell and broke the headstock. Again, my fault! Lo and behold, as I was inquiring about how to fix it, or buy a new neck, they up and sent me a new one! I’m a Stewmac lifer at this point!

Les Paul kit

By

This was my second stew Mac kit. I recently finished the telecaster which turned out well and with upgraded humbuckers has a great sound. I have repaired a number of acoustics and assembled several kits - so I should have known better: the binding on this les Paul was far from perfect. There were 3/4 gaps in the edge and 2 places where it was not flush with the top of the guitar body. Stew Mac probably would have excepted a return but I was in a hurry and thought I could work my way through this. And I have, but it has taken too much time and wrecked my nerves. The binding flaw made scraping the cherry lacquer very difficult and required edge touch-ups in those places. Sanding the top down wouldn’t work because of the thin veneer. I have been trying to get the body ready for gloss for a week. It will look good but not the way I wanted. Lesson learned.

Otherwise it has gone well. The fret board required very little work. I have purchased upgraded humbuckers. I suggest that the binding color be changed to match the other plastic components. These kits are generally nice, this one should have been returned.

First project. Impressed with quality. Some minor flaws

This is my first project guitar. But i've done lots of woodworking before. I ended up doing a solid opaque paint on the front, and the wood grain wasn't quite ready for that. I wish I had done the grain filler on the front- if you are staining it, its probably fine. But I can see some of the imperfections on the front of the guitar that I wish weren't there.

Otherwise, I'm really pleased with the quality of the pieces. Looking forward to getting it done!
