Thanks Stemac!

Today (4-6-2021) replaced my Squier Affinity elements and pickguard with Stewmac's Golden Age Pre-wired perloid pickguard. Also shielded the cavities with copper foil and fitted the pickguard with a pre-made aluminum shield plate from underneath. My god, what a difference! It gave me a completely different guitar, with a warm, powerful sound; and dead quiet. What a joy to be able to play this Squier as a mature instrument now (I had previously replaced the bridge and tuners). Years ago I played an American Strat for a long time and I'm sure this upgraded Squier surpasses its American brother. I know it's often said that it's nonsense to come up with a Chinese Squiere and then start upgrading it. That, as they say, is throwing good money after bad. Yet I did it and for a good 500 bucks (guitar and ugrades) I got much more than I could have ever bought for that price. Thanks Stemac!

Not perfect, but adequate

Be aware that the wiring on the pickups and plug jack may be a little different than the original part. Would be nice to have some instructions, as the number of wires to the plug jack differ from stock wiring. The most frustrating part though is that most of the holes in the pick guard do not line up with the holes in the guitar body. The part is the same shape, but all but maybe two of the holes were about 3/32 of an inch off, give or take, from the existing holes in the body. I ended up having to drill new holes, as just having two screws holding the pick guard on, would be kind of goofy. It does look nice, though. Everything but the holes in the guard was nice quality. I don't understand how they could be off center like that, but you can make it work by drilling new holes for each screw.

Drop in fit on my 2012 MIJ ST54. These pick ups are quieter and clearer sounding than the loud raunchy ceramics that were replaced.

Works Great Could Have Used Instructions

The new components work really great. I had a good general idea how to install them although some directions, written or video, would have been helpful to confirm what I was planning to do but I couldn't find any. What I did find was directions to an earlier version that didn't require soldering. The version I got required soldering the ground to the tremolo mechanism in the back and two wires two the cord plug. I have a 1980's Korean Squire Stratocaster and the screw holes on the new pickguard didn't line up with the holes in the guitar body so I transferred the new components on to the old pickguard so I wouldn't have to drill new holes in the body. To make this work, I had to enlarge the holes for the volume and tone controls in my old pickguard and lightly file the holes for the pickups since the new ones were ever-so-slightly bigger. All of that said, I am very satisfied.

squier/stratocaster electronics upgrade

i am very happy with the Golden Age pre wired pickguard. Basically i took the screws off the old guard and dropped in the new one. 3 simple solder points and i was done. I have a 1987 Squier/stratocaster made in japan and was looking to upgrade the Electronics. This has filled the bill, no more background hum and the sound is cleaner/clearer is the the best way to describe it, nociced it straight away. Very Happy.

Golden Age Pre-Wired Pickguard

The customer service folks were very helpful in answering my questions and the guard arrived very quickly. The fact that the middle pickup is reverse wound was a factor in making my decision. I have a Squier Affinity Strat and wanted to upgrade the pickups and see if I could reduce the hum. The pickups sound great but I've still got the hum although that really isn't the Golden Age pickups fault, there are two flourescent lights and a computer within about 3 feet and the power strip and transformers are about 4 feet away so it's a tough environment. I would order this again for another guitar.

Squire upgrade

Got a made in indonesia squire. the duncan design were terrible. adding this set up, now the instrument sings! great chime, like you can hear on lots of great recording from the 60's - 70's. These sound great clean, or with a bit of grit. My only concern, I would like to have a treble bleed circuit, and also the bridge pick up wired to a tone control. I will do these myself. I love this guitar now, also added some gotoh tuners. I had a 2006 Highway One strat, that I have regretted selling for a couple years now. This doesn't sound the same, but I am pleasantly surprised by the change in my practice it has spawned. I give it a 4 only because of the 2 small issues spoken of above. Great product. Went in with 3 solder points. Took longer to take the strings off and re-string. I have played since 1963, and made a living playing for 38 years, all over the U.S. Still experimenting with different tone settings and having a blast. Thank you for a great product.
