Scratchy Pot + Switch Cleaning Set

About This Item

Everything you need to eliminate scratchy pots and noisy switches. Nothing is worse than scratchy, dirty pots and switches. You know you have the problem when your sound cuts out when switching pickups or your pots are making noise. Most of the time they don't need replacement, a little cleaning will save the day. That's why we've put together a set of our favorite tools that'll fix this problem instantly.

This is the best regular maintenance you can do for your electric guitar. In this set you'll get a Knob Puller to get those stubborn knobs off, DeoxIT®—the best cleaner for guitar electronics, and a Pot Cleaning Cap to get the cleaner exactly where it needs to be.

Never be frustrated by scratchy sounds again!

Works with 3/8 x 32-thread, made in USA potentiometers: CTS, Allen-Bradley, Bourns, CentraLab, Clarostat, and others. It's not compatible with imported or metric-thread control pots (like Alpha).

Works for switches, too—for delicate applications, apply DeoxIT® to a cotton swab and apply gently.

TIP: Aerosol contact cleaners can spray cold, and can potentially crack a guitar's finish. Always protect the finish with a cloth when cleaning pots and switches.

Includes:
Knob Puller
Pot Cleaning Cap
CAIG DeoxIT Pot & Switch Cleaner

Bought to clean a scratchy switch on my Gretsch. Took some effort inserting the red tube into the can's nozzle, but once the tube was inserted, I cleaned the selector switch and removed the unwanted noises made when using the switch. Highly recommended product.

For me this product has brought back to life a pre gain pot on a Marshall head, a gain pot on a SWR head, the toggle swicth on a SG, an overdrive pedal left for dead, a mixing board we thought was trash, an acoustic guitar volume knob that's been a pain for years, a volume "puck" for a BOSE computer sound system...all these things that I thought needed some time consuming repair job was handled by this can of spray in seconds. I've used pot cleaners before but never with these results. An excellent product and I finally have a knob puller! Also the little metal post cover included in this set works like a charm.

I suggest you buy two to have them on hand.
The nozzles is a common issue I gather because some do not fit but thet are sending merr a replacement asap.
In the meaNTIME I went in through the back plate and within a few seconds the issues were fixed.
This spray is fantastic...nozzle and cap cover metza metz but spray is best I've used since 68'

Loosened the pots and eliminated MOST of the scratchy

I used this on a Fender Frontman 212R that had pretty scratchy pots and sticky plunge switches. The machined adapter didn't exactly fit the pot shaft and threads, so I used a rag with a hole in it to keep the solvent from getting everywhere. The first think I noticed is that with a couple of application, the pot loosened up completely, although I am not sure this is a good thing. This made the shaft wiggle slightly, which tells me that the original grease packing of the shaft has been blown away. Second thing I noticed was that the scratchiness WAS reduced significantly, but not completely. Now, I notice that the Frontman is quite a lot hummier than the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb that I have, so it's possible that the componants are older, and lower quality.

Ultimately, the idea of jetting away the packing grease concerns me and makes me wonder if this will lead to a failure of the componant. That being said, the pots all now work within acceptable parameters, and I am, overall, pleased with the product for saving me the work of removing the components and replacing them, which I can always do later if I need to.

DeoxIT is da bomb!!! If you don't do work professionally, you don't go through a lot of it, and this can was only my 2nd one in about 20 years! It can't be beat for getting the job done with guitars and amps with pots and jacks that are dirty, and now with the Pot Cleaning Cap, you get it to go where you need it without it getting all over (although that was never a big issue as it never damaged any surfaces). Definitely recommended!!!

I bought this as a kind of “let’s see if this will save money” purchase. I knew I could take my ‘69 Telecaster to the luthier and have him clean those crackling, scratchy pots for about 30 dollars, or I could try the Scratchy Pot + Switch Cleaning Set. I figured I could save a lot of time and money in the long run if it worked. To make a long story short, this set worked perfectly! I’m VERY pleasantly surprised. The pots work and sound as if they’re brand new. It may be just my imagination, but I think the knobs actually turn smoother than before, too. Full disclosure: I haven’t used the knob puller - my ‘69 Tele doesn’t have those kinds of knobs. It’s made for the Gibson type knobs. It’s made of plastic and looks kinda cheap, but it does look like it will do the job just fine. I highly recommend this product. The next time I use it, it will have paid for itself. It’s a great investment.

Does the job

I used the kit on several guitar pots and several amp pots. The knob puller works fine. Make sure you cover the hole on the top of the cap that fits over the shaft -- if you don't, the lubricant spray will shoot out the top of the cap.
