Free-Way 5-Way/10-Position Pickup Switch

About This Item

Unlimited new tones for your guitar!
Finally! A simple solution to get more options out of your pickups, without drilling holes, installing new switches, or adding push-pull pots. Don't change the look and feel of your guitar when you can get more options with one simple upgrade.

This Free-Way 5-Way/10-Position switch takes the conventional Strat-Style 5-way switch so much further. This unique switch opens new tones and wiring options without permanent modification to your guitar.

No ugly new holes, countless new options
Designed to replace a conventional 5-way switch, it works like two 5-way switches side-by-side. While the Super Switch and Megaswitch allow for more custom wiring then traditional 5-way switches, this is the only model that will allow you easy access to 10 pickup combinations, coil tapping and splitting instantly from the same switch.

With one knob, you can click between each pickup selection in a flash. The feel of the switch is not changed—it feels just like the switch you are used to.

And—you can finally get your neck and bridge pickup together without sacrificing another pickup option. Finally get that middle position Tele® sound from your Strat® and get the fat Gibson® Les Paul® sound from your HSH guitar.

Professional quality for a lifetime of use
Free-Way switches are made in England with top quality components so they'll keep working gig after gig, year after year. The solder pads are gold-plated, the switch housing is stainless steel.

And it even includes two knobs! One white and one black to get the right look.

The switch easily replaces conventional 5-way switches.

Unlock the tone of all three of your pickups!

Solid!

I bought this for my Am Pro strat and I'm happy I did. The added sounds – particularly the two in-series hum cancelling positions and the neck + bridge in parallel – are an excellent addition to the strat, all while maintaining all the positions you know and love. Construction is solid as well. 10/10 recommend it. Takes about an hour to solder if your beginner to intermediate with an iron.

Should be the norm for all Strat switches

If you needed a new switch, and didn't buy this switch, I'd almost be mad at you. This switch is basically a normal Strat switch if you want it to be. Sometimes, you might even forget about the extra five tones! You do not have to worry about switching to the extra bank by accident, because you have to push quite forcibly to switch to the other tones. Oh and these other tones—fantastic!! They do something a guitar pedal cannot: more voices. A pedal can change the character, but not the voice itself of the guitar. Having more pickup combination definitely does that, as we all know, so the extra sonic capabilities really change a lot. Whether you will use the extra positions for interesting guitar parts, use it to create your own unique tone, or use it a bit alongside the generic Strat tones, you'll find a use for this switch. It's not "extra junk". The in-between in-series positions are the most useful in my opinion. They sound like the normal Strat in-between positions, but less quack and jangly, and darker, less pronounced, bigger and louder. Perfect for jazz clean, nice tone. With overdrive, it's perfect for a boost, its definitely a change from the regular Strat overdriven tones and its perfect for bigger rhythm. So all of this, for 50 bucks, absolutely no physical changes to the guitar's looks, and no changes to the fundamentals of a Strat. So you can have your dear Stratocaster tones, AND more. That's the beauty of this switch.

Now for StewMac. I am speechless by their support service. Quick emails, keep me updated, and create a happy and positive atmosphere! These guys are awesome! I can't describe their support with words too well, so I will use an example. I got a 20 dollar discount a year ago, but it expired. That did not stop them from adding it into my order anyways!!!! I will keep on buying from StewMac and I will whole heartedly recommend them to my friends—that's why I recommend them, and this switch, to all of you.

Put in my Hendrix strat which already has inverted pickups so the née tone combinations are very unique and sound great. Shipping and customer service also great.

These are great switches. I have put them is 3 of my 3 pickup guitars, thus eliminating the need for additional switches and Push/Pull pots to get my desired combinations of pickups.

Easy to install fun to play

What’s not to like. The switch is inexpensive, easy to install and gives you the option of five more tones while still being able to switch between the traditional Strat tone the same way you have grow used to. The only choice I had to make was between wiring all three pickups in series or just the bridge and middle in series. I opted for the bridge and neck by flipping a coin. The tone knob was already wired to control the bridge so I left it as is. My guitar only had one capacitor, on the back knob. Don’t know if I needed another because I’m just starting to mess with this stuff.

The Best Mod For Strats!

The Free-Way 10 way switch for stratocaster style guitars was a little time consuming to install but well worth the effort..wiring diagrams are available @ the StewMac website & easy to follow...once installed I really like the tone options @ your fingertips. The series switched sound for the bridge/middle pickup & the neck/middle series sound worth the price of admission alone.

Easy step by step wiring. You have all 5 regular strat positions. But you get 5 other awesome options. The single-coil pickups in series sound great!!
