CTS Control Pots

About This Item

CTS pots have long been the first choice in American guitars. CTS pots from StewMac have even more to like: closer tolerances and longer life!

We've specified these CTS pots to feature a longer-life brass shaft and tighter ±10% resistance tolerance compared to CTS products offered by most other suppliers.

CTS precision audio taper gives you smoother and more accurate response than you'll get with economy pots. Crank your guitar up to 10 and the volume swells all the way—no abrupt flattening to choke your playing style.

Available with split shaft for fine-knurled (24-spline) knob, or with smooth shaft to fit a set-screw knob. A long-shaft 500K-ohm version fits Les Paul style carved-top solidbodies.

Each CTS pot includes a flat washer, lock washer, and two hex mounting nuts for custom height adjustment on a pickguard or control plate.

Which pot value should you choose?
500K pots are standard controls for humbuckers, and 250Ks are usually used for single-coil pickups. A 250K gives a slightly warmer tone than a 500K, and bleeds off (attenuates) some of the high frequencies to ground.

Replacement Mounting Nuts and Lock Washers are also available.

Good Cure for Cheap Kit Pots

By

Verified Buyer

Two volume pots on the kit I purchased from another company were very poor quality. They were either fully off, or fully on. Nothing in between. I purchased two CTS pots and replaced them. Now I have fully functioning volume levels, from off to on and everything in between. It's not rocket science. A little higher quality pot is going going to be better than what's included with most any kit, unless you get upgraded hardware when you order.

The Taper Could be Better

By

For tone and volume on Tele's and Strat's, they start to be heard at about 4 (they taper on and off too quickly- nothing happens between 1-4). I still have been using them for the past 4 years for my purposes, but this problem hasn't been addressed (but I'm not too fussy). Others may not like this, but otherwise the price and quality are good.

Exactly what you'd expect. Like the taper...very even...Guitar cleans up well. Only weird thing I noticed is when all the way off...you get no volume of any kind until 1.5 - 2.

I am a novice DIY guitar tech and wanted to replacement the inferior electronics on my Epiphone Les Paul. I used these pots and a Switchcraft toggle switch and it sounds amazing. I'm not that great at sodering but these made life easy. Tinned and heated quickly and came out very neat. I'm glad I bought a few extra just in case.
