Golden Age Treble Bleed Circuit

About This Item

An easy mod for your volume control to get more uniform guitar tone from 1 to 10.

Hand-soldered here in our shop: a 150K-ohm 1/4-watt resistor (1% tolerance) in parallel with a .001uF capacitor. Wire this simple mod between the input and output lugs of your guitar volume control pot, to smooth out treble bleed. Get more uniform tone from 1 to 10, and a more rounded sound at low volume. Available with ceramic or Orange Drop® capacitor.

Hear the difference in TradeSecrets Issue 182.

Due to the small size of the resistor, we recommend using Alligator Clip Heat Sinks when soldering this circuit in place.

For modding original caps, see our #7373 150K-ohm 1/4-watt Resistor.

Just WOW

By

I did it 10 of my guitars, 20 more to go...
This is the least expansive but very effective mod.
I purchased the resistors and capacitor as separate items and did the soldering.
My guitars now stay alive when I roll off the volume. This is great.

All I'm going to say is just simply try one. I Guarantee you'll be buying 2 more like I did lol. Just solder it to some alligator clips and clip it on the volume pot and see if you like it. If you don't like it, simply just unclip it. That was no soldering was done to see if you like it.

I like them

Yes, you can make them yourself, but when you're already ordering stewmac parts, these are tempting to tack onto the cart.

Great service

I've got these in the past and they work great. This time however, once I plugged in to play, I was having some unexplainable issue with the volume pot not working properly. I clipped it out and it worked fine. I reached out to Stew Mac to see if they could tell me what went wrong. They were baffled as well, but sent me another, free of charge, without me asking. I can't ask for more than that!

I love the sound.

I wasn't sure if I would like the sound (probably read too many reviews) so I ran the circuit through an on/off mini toggle. I really do like the sound. It seems to give it a little boost. Installed the TB into a Squire 60's thinline. Fender Custom Shop Texas Specials. Joe Barden bridge. New CTS pots. New Fender 4 way switch so I now have 1. Bridge 2. Bridge/Neck in series 3. Bridge/Neck in series. Gives it a orig. low power PAF sound. Very nice. 4. Neck only. I highly recommend this treble bleed circuit. Very fast delivery. I love Stew/Mac.

Never tried a treble bleed before-now I will be putting in all my guitars.

Improves treble tone when volume is reduced

If you find that your treble tone is reduced much more than your bass tone when you reduce the guitar's volume knob from full to one-half, or so, this may be the fix for you.

Perfect for my humbuckers

Nicely keeps the treble as you turn your volume down. I’m using one dimarzio 36th anniversary and an air classic.

Saved my guitar!

The treble bleed circuits made my Epiphone Les Paul volume pots useable. Without the treble bleeds, rolling the volume back immediately made the tone muddy. After installing the bleeds, the tone stays consistent for the full rang3 of the volume pots.
A simple and extremely useful mod.

Awesome mod for any guitar

Glad I installed these, but I'm not sure as they seem to inhibit the volume swell. instead of slowly fading it seems to just cut off. I think the best remedy if you don't already have one is to install these because the signal is still beautifully clear and get yourself a good quality volume pedal.
