Golden Age Treble Bleed Circuit

About This Item

An easy mod for your volume control to get more uniform guitar tone from 1 to 10.

Hand-soldered here in our shop: a 150K-ohm 1/4-watt resistor (1% tolerance) in parallel with a .001uF capacitor. Wire this simple mod between the input and output lugs of your guitar volume control pot, to smooth out treble bleed. Get more uniform tone from 1 to 10, and a more rounded sound at low volume. Available with ceramic or Orange Drop® capacitor.

Hear the difference in TradeSecrets Issue 182.

Due to the small size of the resistor, we recommend using Alligator Clip Heat Sinks when soldering this circuit in place.

For modding original caps, see our #7373 150K-ohm 1/4-watt Resistor.

This is the perfect circuit to keep those high frequencies from fading out when the volume is rolled down. Now I can roll off the distortion and keep my tone. Perfect balance!
Easy installation.

Woww!

Guys...

First of all, thank you for the unbelievable fast delivery. It arrived really fast. Second, what a tone I got from my two guitars. I've installed this on my old Carvin that was already really good and now it is even better. After that, I've installed it in my Fender Tele Nashville with Seymour Duncan Little 59. What a blast. Incredible dynamics and the sound is so bright. Really a great mod.

Thank you again!

Excellent product -- and a question I hope someone can answer

I've put one of these with the orange drop cap in every guitar whenever I take it apart for one reason or another, and they are fabulous. If you don't have one, get one!

But I have a question I hope someone at StewMac can answer. I "installed" one of these in a '64 Jazzmaster as part of a pickup replacement (Kinman noiseless, if anyone's curious). I say in quotes, because I noticed that the volume control in that guitar is not wired like in the diagrams. It has no lead to the output jack; that lead comes only from the pickup selector switch. I think, although I don't have it open in front of me, that the volume control puts resistance between the pickup selector and ground. I noticed this perhaps to explain why the range of the volume control is now mostly between 0 and 2, with only a slight increase in volume from 2 to 10. All tips and suggestions appreciated. Someday when I next feel like taking the pickguard off and getting in there, I'll do the fix. Thanks much.

Last Piece of the Puzzle

I assembled a Warmoth parts guitar (Strat) that is lightweight basswood (saves my back) with a super-wide neck (to help with lost of dexterity due to MS), but was having a problem with rolling of my highs at lower volumes. By adding the treble bleed circuit to my volume knob, my guitar is now perfect for my needs. Thank you for the last piece of the puzzle.

Solved my tone loss problem

By

Verified Buyer

I ordered this after much research about an issue with my new(est) Charvel. The guitar and amp that I am using was clear and articulate when the guitar volume was on 10, but the notes lost treble, and therefor definition, when I backed the guitar volume down. I installed the Treble Bleed Circuit and now get about the same treble, no matter where the guitar volume is. This allows me to dial the amp in to get the tone I want and it stays consistent when I roll back the volume. Just what I was looking for.

Great tone control

After watching the StewMac video on pots and components I knew that I wanted this little circuit because of its big control. It’s a great upgrade for any guitar to aid in overall tone control. Takes down those high treble frequencies when you don’t want them.
