As you may have noticed, finding high-quality Koa sets has become increasingly difficult, especially material with consistent color and natural figure. We've had the opportunity to acquire a limited number of Koa top, back, and side sets that offer excellent overall character, with subtle to moderate flame throughout.

These sets showcase the natural beauty that makes Koa so desirable. Warm color, pleasing variation, and understated figure come together in a way that works across a wide range of builds. Availability is limited, and we are unsure if or when we will be able to source additional sets.

Minimum Dimensions

• Back halves: 8-1/4" x 22" x 0.140" (210mm x 559mm x 3.55mm)
• Sides: 5" x 31-1/2" x 0.130" (127mm x 800mm x 3.3mm)
• Top: Each half is approximately 8-1/2" x 21" x 0.140" (216mm x 533mm x 3.55mm)

Koa, Acacia Koa
Originating in the Hawaiian Islands, Koa is a dense tropical hardwood that has been used for guitars and ukuleles since the 1920s. It is known for its rich visual character, with colors ranging from golden amber to deep browns, blacks, and occasional hints of purple. While highly figured Koa is especially prized, even more subtle sets like these offer a refined and timeless appearance.

Tonally, Koa blends the best qualities of Mahogany and Maple. Its strong mid-range is similar to Mahogany while its top end sparkle more closely resembles Maple. It lends itself well to rhythm playing and develops a more dynamic, responsive voice over time. With age and playing, the sound becomes increasingly open and balanced.

Koa works similar to Mahogany, and bends easily. Sets with more figure may require additional care during bending. Koa has open pores which will require filling prior to finish.
