Golden Age Restoration Tuners for 12-String Slotted Peghead Guitar

About This Item

At last! Quality authentic style machines for slotted-peghead Martin, Stella, and similar 12-string guitars.

Their simple open-gear 6-on-plate design will improve tuning without adding significant weight to the peghead. Relic nickel finish adds an authentic look to vintage and reproduction instruments. Complete set for 12-string slotted peghead.

"For 20 years we've been dying for someone to manufacture tuners like these. People who build replica instruments or who do any restoration or repair work are just going to love these. Absolutely terrific, StewMac!"
— Frank Ford, Gryphon Stringed Instruments, Palo Alto CA

"Guys like me have waited a long time for these, and they're a dream come true. They're great — nice and tight, with a good gear ratio, and they allow me to keep the old-style spacing so I can have a headstock of the same dimensions as the originals."
— Todd Cambio, Fraulini Guitars
  • Rectangular steel baseplates with vintage-style square riveted worm supports
  • Steel string posts for slotted pegheads
  • 15:1 gear ratio for improved tuning
  • Original-shape cream or black plastic knobs; relic tuners have knobs with a matte finish
  • .922" (23.42mm) string post spacing
  • .236" (6.00mm) string post diameter
  • Mounting screws included
Note: Mounting screw spacing on original 12-string tuners varied widely.

Installation Tips

Mounting screws: Pilot holes required. Installing delicate screws into hard wood requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend the #1714 Depth-stop Drill Bit (3/32" bit) for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

Works great on old Martin 12 string

No drilling needed. Fits my dad’s early 1970’s guitar. Would have liked more options for appearance. It doesn’t look much like the original.

I bought these for my Grandpa's Martin 12-string that I'm restoring. They fit perfectly, and are smooth operating. Very easy install also. Would definitely recommend.

Rebuilding my tuner trays on a 1954 Fender three neck console steel guitar

By

I got the information from the Steel Guitar Forum that these tuners would work on my steel guitar with a bit of modification and they work perfectly. The original tuners used a copper worm gear driving a brass gear. After years, slippage occurred so I decided to try and rebuild them myself. I saved over $600 this way.

so far so good

I bought this set of tuners for my 1966 Martin 12-string. I was able to replace the old set rather easily thank goodness. It has made my guitar sound brand new again. I am grateful that I found this product.

Hard to Find 12 String Tuners Like These that are High  End

By

Verified Buyer

These are good solid tuners. Not the prettiest or the best out there. However they do the job and are by far better than others on the market. If you're in need of this style, certainly worth the price, realize from the start they are not the top of the line prettiest tuners. Stable Yes, Functional Yes, Woth it, Yes. Looked far and wide, these are it. Good idea to explain to customers upfront what to expect.

Not very good tuners.

Look Cool but: 1) manufacturing is sloppy--my base plates weren't quite flat, and 2) the stay-in-tune, get-in-tune is a long way from modern tuning machines.

Fits perfectly

I bought these as replacement for worn out tuners on my 1968 Ovation Balladeer 12 string. They look very nice and fit the guitar with no modification needed. They are smooth turning and the buttons are very comfortable to turn.

Fits a late 60s Stella/Harmony 12 string

By

This fits perfectly into a Late 60s Stella/Harmony 12 string. Though it leaves the top screw hole from the original tuners visible (see pic), it works great and is obviously super high quality. Such a pleasure to be able to play this guitar again!
I installed their 6 string slotted tuners on my 31 National Duolian as well.

Just the thing for a Harmony 12 string Sovereign

By

These well made tuners were a perfect fit to bring new life to my '68 Harmony Sovereign 12 String. The fit was precise and no modifications had to be made. Just off with the old and on with the new.
