The 3-barrel design is a defining characteristic of many Tele builds. Two strings per barrel means you're dialing one intonation setting for each pair, not one per string. That's been the standard setup on these guitars since the 1950s. And it's still the deliberate choice for many players who want that vintage Tele charm.
