ColorTone Touch-up Marker

About This Item

Genuine nitrocellulose guitar lacquer, easy to use
Easily repair minor finish dings and scratches. When that heartbreaking first ding appears on your new guitar, these convenient ColorTone touchup pens come to the rescue. No brushing, no spraying!

The applicator tip on the marker is reversible. One end has a flat surface for broad strokes. Remove the tip and flip it around for pin-point application.

Use Clear Gloss for repairs in clear finishes, for spot-sealing tints, and to mask bindings before you stain the surrounding wood. Aged Clear has a subtle tint to match old finishes.

The tinted lacquers are transparent. They're great for touching up sunbursts and finishes where the wood grain shows through. They match the colors in our ColorTone Aerosol Guitar Lacquers.

Blond and TV Yellow are vintage classics. Sometimes called toners, these finishes are semi-opaque to allow some grain to show through.

The Black pen is the quick fix for scratched pegheads, and Sonic Blue is a match for the classic Fender solid color of the same name.

A word of caution:
Nitrocellulose lacquer melts into itself, making it ideal for nearly invisible touchups on lacquer finishes. But that also means there is potential to disturb or damage the existing finish. Experiment with the markers on scrap wood to get a feel for their flow and application before attempting a repair on your guitar.

Warning! Lacquer under pressure
Our new touch up pens differ from the felt tipped marker type we previously stocked. These pens contain nitrocellulose lacquer that is under pressure. It is very important to relieve the pressure built up from shaking it prior to use by pressing down on the tip with the pen in the upright position. This will prevent the pen from flooding your work with excess lacquer.

Buyer Beware And Thank You Stew Mac

After reading the instructions, I went to use this by gently pressing down the tip and a flood of red came out getting all over my clothes, shoes and rug. I was not happy. Stew Mac refunded my money so that was a positive. However I cannot recommend this pen. Also, this is lacquer so it will melt lacquer that's already applied and you could potentially end up chasing a small defect and it turning into a large one.

The perfect tv yellow match to the real deal. I also used it to get a great butterscotch color for a tele build. Stewmac never ceases to amaze me!

Extremely Convenient, Mixed Pen Layers to Get Proper Color for Sunburst

I fixed a chip in a Fender Jazz Bass, a 1962 reissue, with lacquer sunburst. The chip was down to the wood in the transition from black to red in the 3-tone sunburst. I layered Vintage Amber and Red Mahogany to get very close to the original color. You can detect the repair with a close view in direct sunlight, but, otherwise it is invisible.
