ColorTone Scratch Remover

About This Item

Finally a safe way to remove fine scratches from finishes. ColorTone Scratch Remover is a safe and easy way to remove fine finish scratches from new or old finishes. Safe for all finishes and contains no silicone that can do damage and complicate repairs.

Scratches from picks and play wear are annoying, but they do not need to be permanent. You can easily remove them without complicated buffing equipment. Restore a factory look easily at home or in your shop. Great for pickguards too.

Clean the area first (we suggest our Clean + Shine), then apply the Scratch Remover to a clean cloth. Work into the scratches until they disappear, repeat and let dry to a haze. Buff with a clean cloth until smooth and shiny. Follow up with Clean + Shine for best results.

A fine factory finish is not only for new instruments. We make finishes, and we developed this as the safest scratch treatment out there. Our Scratch Remover also does not contain harmful silicone, which can cause cratering and "fisheyes" in finishes, and make future repairs much more difficult.

Make your old finish new again with ColorTone Scratch Remover.

Scratch remover?

By

Verified Buyer

I'm perplexed about this product... I see some reviews that state exactly what this stuff does. Creat a hazy spot on my new poly finished guitar body... And others that say it's great? What gives??? I've used this on a pickguard to no avail, and unfortunately on my afore mentioned tele body which now has 2 hazy spots on its "new" shiny back! Bummer. I'm wondering if the successful use of this product was on old, faded finishes? Says good for pickguards. No.

Response from StewMac

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback with us, we genuinely appreciate that. We are sorry to hear that the ColorTone Scratch Remover did not work for you as expected. There are a few things that could conrtibute to the haze you described. It could be as simple as a little dirt on the cloth you used or there was some leftover residue from not being wiped down good enough. We have had a technician send you an email so that we can work on making this right. Just reply to that message when you get a chance and our customer service team will take care of everything. We look forward to hearing back from you and can't thank you enough for this helpful feedback.

Works great!

I just bought a Gibson SG that from a guitar shop and after I brought it home I noticed there was a huge area of very fine scratches on the back in the area that is common to have buckle rash. Thankfully the scratches present were only very fine, but there was A LOT of them. I ordered this an with express shipping it was at my place in 2 days, and I live in Canada. I clean the area and applied this and worked it in circular motions with a clean cloth like the bottle instructions say and then after that I used the ColorTone clean+shine and the result was amazing. I can barely notice the scratches and it doesnt affect the nitro finish in any way. Amazing product

It works on very fine scratches, don’t expect
To get belt rash out of a guitar. Had some scuffs/rub marks that’s polished out easy with this material, as well as some small pick scratches. Overall, it serves a purpose but won’t remove all your scratches.

Similar to Gary, I tried this product on glossy black guitar with light scratches, it may have removed some of the scratches but it left a dull finish afterwards. Every product so far I've gotten from Stewmac has worked as advertised or expected, very disappointed with this one.

Purchased this to get some scratches off my Les Paul Goddess and it worked better than any other scratch remover I have previously used. Follow the instructions, take your time, and your guitar will look better than ever! Fast, well packaged shipping too.

Used this after removing some light scratches with the Colortone scratch remover, which left some light swirl marks. Cleaned up nice.

Dull, hazy results

If you are looking for a single product to remove light scratches and restore the finish afterwards this is not for you.

I used this on a gloss black guitar (30+ years old) which did remove some of the surface scratches but left the finish extremely dull. After wiping all residue and cleaning with the colortone detailer and then guitar polish it was no different. Perhaps I had applied it incorrectly so I re-read the instructions, tried a different cloth and had another go in a different area of the guitar, same result, horrible. I then tried my black bass in case it was the finish on the first guitar, same result. I then used the colortone scratch remover with my rotary polisher in case the hand method wasn’t good enough, again the same poor finish afterwards. I then used a polishing pad on my rotary polisher to attempt to clear it up, nothing.

Applying my own menzerna car polish (low cut) via rotary polisher (same procedure i’d done with the colortone scratch remover) I finally removed the horrible dullness left by this product, I can now breathe again.

Perhaps my bottle was faulty? Either way it’s destined for the trash and I’ll use my car detailing kits moving forwards.
