Black Bone Nut Blank
Legendary Acoustic Tone—Now with a Bold New Look
StewMac is proud to introduce the first-ever Black Bone Nut Blanks, created specifically for guitar makers and repair professionals. For decades, bone has been the gold standard for superior tone, density, and precise workability. Until now, your visual options were limited to stark white or vintage-cream unbleached bone.
Our new Black Bone Nut Blanks deliver all the renowned tonal qualities and easy workability of traditional bone—now with a bold, modern aesthetic. You no longer need to choose between tone and style. With these blanks, you can finally have both.
Genuine Dyed Bone—All the Way Through
These aren't surface-dyed or coated nuts. Our unique vacuum-pressure dyeing process deeply infuses the bone with rich, black color that penetrates throughout the entire material. The consistent black color remains true even when trimming, shaping, or slotting the nut.
This unique process preserves the rich, organic character of real bone—it doesn't look like plastic, and it's not jet black. You'll often see subtle grain patterns, similar to unbleached bone, with flecks and depth that give it a more natural, handcrafted feel. If you prefer a more uniform black finish, you can deepen the color with a bit of black ColorTone dye applied on a cloth. Once dry, wipe off the excess and seal it with a light coat of shellac or lacquer for a deep, obsidian-black appearance.
Quick Prep Tip
Before working with these blanks, we recommend gently washing them with mild soap and water using an old toothbrush. This simple step helps prevent dye transfer to surrounding woods, ensuring professional-quality results.
