Wilkinson 60s Vintage-S Guitar Kit

About This Item

Now you can build a 60s classic
From legendary designer Trev Wilkinson, these are some of the highest quality electric guitar kits available today. With three single coils, two cutaways, and one trem, what else do you need?

If you want to build a guitar inspired by the Strats of the 60s, this is the kit for you. Wilkinson supercharged this kit with the best of everything. With top quality woods, professional-grade pickups, and amazing craftsmanship, your new favorite guitar is within your grasp. Now you can build your own with a few simple tools.

Make it play like a dream
This kit oozes vintage vibe and tone, and the parts and electronics are completely upgraded from top to bottom.

The heart of the kit is the premium grain-matched center joined 2-piece body. The routing is crisp and clean, and the wood is smooth and ready to finish. With our series of ColorTone Lacquers and Finishes, you can make it look exactly like you've always pictured it.

The Maple neck right out of the box feels smooth and fits tight in the pocket. It's pre-fretted, inlayed, and ready of fine tune to your perfect shape. The profile is nearly identical to the iconic 60s models that we all love. The peghead has a very familiar shape—it's ready for you to customize and dial in the exact curves and contours to match any vintage model you feel inspired by.

Custom pickups and pro parts
Each and every electronic component is totally upgraded. Wilkinson's custom-wound WVS pickups are hooked up with premium wiring and professional-grade CTS pots and CRL switch. These vintage-voiced Alnico V pickups have captured the soul and tone of 50s and 60s Strats perfectly. The pickguard is completely pre-wired, saving you hours of work.

Vintage hardware with modern playability
The hardware upgrades are where this kit really shines. The bridge is Wilkinson's take on the classic Strat trem, with traditional bent steel saddles. The bridge baseplate features elongated holes so the screws won't bind, for smooth, accurate return to pitch. The steel block also features staggered holes for an incredible feel. The Graph Tech nut keeps the guitar in tune even when you lean into the trem.

Your kit includes everything you'll need:
  • Finely sanded 2-piece center joined Alder body
  • Neck pocket, pickup cavities and bridge holes routed and drilled
  • Shaped Maple neck with installed truss rod
  • 25.5" (647mm) scale length, 7.25" radius
  • One piece 60s-style neck with Rosewood fingerboard
  • 21 vintage size frets and traditional clay dot inlays
  • Shaped peghead, ready to customize
  • Pre-slotted Graph Tech nut for perfect action
  • Nickel plated hardware—from tuners to strap buttons
  • Wilkinson WV6 bridge
  • Pre-wired 3-ply mint green/black/mint green pickguard with three Wilkinson WVS pickups
  • 5-way CRL switch and 250K CTS potentiometers
  • Output jack, premium wire, premium capacitors
  • Traditional white knobs with gold lettering
  • Adjustment wrenches

Perfect for first time or pro builders
This kit is a blast to build. You won't have to spend hours sanding to get the feel you want—all of the hard work is already done. If you're a beginner, you'll love that everything fits together with no surprises or tricky skills needed. If you're an old pro, you'll appreciate that nothing needs to be upgraded or replaced. You'll have a ready to play factory-level guitar as soon as you install the last screw.

best kit i have seen

First of all I will tell you the bad things, since that is what most people want to find out.

Two of the tuning machines were broken. Initially I was really impressed with the hardware but when I began stringing the instrument up I had realized several were really stiff and two were completely broken. This ruined my day. Having good quality hardware was what was advertised and broken tuning machines would have warranted a 1 star review in my opinion, but stewmac fixed it. After contacting them and telling them what happened I looked up on amazon and saw that vintage wilkinson tuners were $30 and stewmac had what seems like a comparable set of gotoh tuners for $40. I offered to pay the ten dollar difference which I thought was fair and they accepted that offer and sent out the replacement tuners the next day. If they would have insisted I take the new tuners for free I would have, but I appreciate them working with me and I do feel like it was fair. This was the only big issue so most people could just stop here. Word of warning: the screws are complete junk. Treat them as if they are made out of butter. If I were going to do it again I would try to order better screws for the tuners, string tree, bridge, everything but the pickguard since they are super short. I drilled pilot holes and lubricated the threads, and made sure to use a correct sized screwdriver and I still had problems with the heads starting to strip. This wasn't a big deal to me, but if its a good quality kit, I think it should include good quality screws, good quality everything. The strings were unbranded .08 gauge according to my calipers, I broke a string tuning it up, that may have been my fault, it may have been that the strings were not good, either way stewmac replaced them with strings of my liking and I really appreciate that, I did not expect them to do that. The last bad thing is there were some markings on the body, very shallow, looked like something was vibrating on it, making these shallow loopty loops. Sanded out easily, and I was not concerned with it whatsoever, just have a good look at it before you get to work on it. There was also no instruction manual but I don't really need one. I am sure stewmac would have answered any questions I had or sent one out.

The good:
The body was practically finish sanded, the routing was clean, and most importantly to me: everything lined up and fit where it was supposed to!
The wiring looks really clean and professionally done.
The bridge and trem feel heavy and seem like good quality.
The neck fit the pocket really well, not too tight, and definitely not sloppy and no gaps.
The neck profile felt great to me, I did not change it at all. Frets felt and looked great. The neck had slight relief before putting it on, I may just tighten the truss rod just a smidge to make sure its doing its job. But no problems there.

5 stars, excellent kit. Best kit I have seen, and what could have made me regretful for ordering it, stewmac stepped in and made everything right.

Thanks very much! Also, i really recommend stewmax yearly shipping fee. If you're putting kits together you probably are ordering various things throughout the year, stain, glue, hardware, parts, shims, all sorts of stuff. The stewmax program they have really does pay for itself in no time.
