Mailbag question: Whats the best way to find your Luthier Tips du Jour videos?

Robert O'Brien: Today's Tips du Jour Mailbag question comes to us from France. "Robert, I watched one of your Luthier Tips du Jour videos, and I want to reference it again, however I'm not able to find it. What's the best way to find your videos, Lucio in France."

On YouTube

Well, Lucio, there are several ways to find my videos. Let me go over and turn on my computer and I'll show you some ways to find them. So like I said, there are several ways to watch my videos. One way is just to open up a window in your browser. I'm using Google here and I'm going to type in YouTube. It's going to take me to YouTube, and then I'm going to type in just O'Brien Guitars and the Luthier Tips du Jour is one of the options there. And there is my page on YouTube. Don't forget to subscribe. You'll find a lot of useful information there.

If you click on it, it brings up my page there on YouTube. And if you scroll down, you'll see all of my videos there and they're in somewhat of a chronological order, but there's a lot of them. So that's one way of finding them.

On my website

Another way, probably a simpler way, is just go to my website. Just type in obrienguitars.com. Go here to the media tab, scroll down. The third option is videos. If you click on videos, you'll see that I have a lot of videos there in the drop-down menu, Luthier Tips du Jour Mailbag is one of the options. That's where I answer viewers questions from around the world. And you'll see they have 99 of them and they're all listed numerically in chronological order. And there's also the title in there. For example, number 64 is about drilling tuner holes, and then you can click on it and you can watch it.

So that's probably a way to find them all in one place chronologically. It's probably the easiest way to do that. If you go back to the drop-down menu here though, you'll notice that I also have one option called the Luthier Tips du Jour option there, and that's my original Luthier Tips du Jour videos and have 82 of those out there. And those were all closed caption with the subtitles. So if you want to watch them in any other language, just use the CC option on the YouTube and you can watch those just by clicking on the YouTube option there. And they'll come up with subtitles there if you want to watch them. Now, if you go back to the drop-down menu here, you'll notice I have other options there. One is product videos. I've done a lot of product videos for people around the world.

There's one on how to install Perflex. I did that for LMI years ago. String height gauge from LMI, all listed there in chronological order. The drill press, rosette cutter, the LMI rotary plunge tool assembly, all there in chronological order. And you can see all the product videos that way. And yet I have Robert's guitars and those are guitars that I have built and either me or somebody else playing them. And there's quite a few of those. Jim Deeming, for example, is a fantastic Chet Atkins finger-style kind of player. And here's one, Michael Chapdeling playing some of my guitars out at the Healdsburg Guitar Festival. And if you go back to that drop-down menu, you'll see instruments built by students. That's another option. A lot of times people ask me, "Hey, what do the guitars sound like that your students build? What do they look like?"

Well, if you come to this option here, you can see people building the guitars with me, and when they get done, they show them off and they play them. And there's quite a few great players in there. So if you want to check that out, you certainly can. If you want to check out the repairs I've done, I have a little option there. You can see some of the repair work I've done. And finally, there's an others tab. And usually when I'm traveling around the world, I have my video camera with me and I go to festivals and things. You can see, for example, John Jorgensen playing at Guitar Town years ago. Actually that was last year. He's there every year. There's some Tommy Emanuel in there, and John Jorgensen quintet, Joe Robbins and Eric Johnson. I mean, there's a lot of people, Lawrence Juber, all of these people. I go around the world and I film them playing or at events. So lots of Q&A sessions in there too, so check that out. Really nice thing to have all of that in one place.

Now going back to my videos, if you don't want to hunt for them on YouTube, you can come over here to the online courses page, drop down here and click on the Luthier Tips du Jour video series. And there you'll see I have my original Luthier Tips du Jour down here at the bottom, way down here. There's the classic series I call it. I've got 82 of those all in chronological order. If you go back up to the top, you've got my Luthier Tips du Jour Mailbag series, and there's been 99 of those released. And then you'll notice some there that have not been released, and there's probably about 50 or 60 of those that have not been released yet.

Now I've got a queue on my YouTube channel waiting to be released, and if I release these at the rate of three or about every three weeks, four weeks, I release one, it will take me four or five years to release all of these. However, if you want to watch them all right now, you certainly can. Just go to the online courses page, like I said. Click on the Luthier Tips du Jour videos, and there they are for $65. You can watch all of the ones that are released and unreleased. And by the way, you can download them and keep a copy if you want.

On LMI's website

And still yet, another way to watch my Tips du Jour videos is just go out to LMI's website, scroll down here and click on the help center. And there you'll see Tutorial and Product videos is one of the options. Click on that. You'll see a lot of my Luthier Tips du Jour videos there mixed with some of the videos that they also do themselves. You'll see product videos, Tip du Jour videos, that kind of stuff, and it's all there on LMI's website. Also, going back to YouTube, if you type in Luthier's Mercantile International and click on that option, then you'll see that LMI also has a page on YouTube, and don't forget to subscribe to that so you can stay up to date on all the new products and information coming out from LMI. If you click on that, once again, you'll see a lot of the videos I've done also mixed together with some of the product videos and instructional videos that they've done.

So Lucio in France, thank you for your question. Now you know several ways to access my videos, and you'll never miss out on the latest information from O'Brien Guitars. Happy building.
