Tamo Ash Drop Top - 001
Of all the woods that turn heads, few offer the refined elegance and rare beauty of Tamo. When finished, its grain seems to ripple with light and shadow, giving guitars a look that’s both rich and otherworldly.
Tamo Ash, Fraxinus mandshurica
Often called Japanese Ash or Manchurian Ash, Tamo is famed for its "peanut shell" or pommele figure—swirling, blister-like grain that appears almost three-dimensional. Though most Tamo is harvested exclusively for veneer, our drop-top sets come from solid boards carefully selected for their clarity, pattern, and build quality.
These tops are kiln-dried and ready to build with—carefully selected for stability and striking aesthetics, perfect for your next build.
Minimum Dimensions (each bookmatched half)
20-1/2" x 7" (521mm x 178mm)
0.225" thick (5.71mm)
Strikingly Different, Classically Familiar
Because Tamo Ash is most often used in veneer form, finding solid, guitar-grade boards is quite uncommon. It pairs beautifully with its American cousin Swamp Ash for an overall look that is both familiar yet stands apart. It works easily with both hand and power tools, glues and finishes well, and takes polish beautifully.
Each Set is Truly Unique
Every WoodStax set is individually photographed—what you see is exactly what you'll receive. We've secured only a handful of these solid Tamo tops. When they're gone, there's no guarantee we'll find more.
