Spanish Cedar Neck Blanks

This AAA Spanish Cedar is cut right in our Ohio mill, and we've made it available in multiple sizes for any build your can dream of.

Long used in building classical guitars, Spanish Cedar carves and works very much like traditional mahogany, with similar tonal qualities. It's very stable, strong, and light weight—perfect for building a guitar neck.

Not cedar, not from Spain
Despite its name, Spanish Cedar (Cedrela odorata) is a hardwood from the same family as mahogany. It was used to build Martin and other parlor guitars from the 1850s until around 1916. Those builders switched to mahogany when it became easier to obtain, but they still use Spanish Cedar, especially for necks.

Compared to mahogany, Spanish Cedar tends to be more consistent in all aspects: weight, density, and color. The light weight and responsiveness is what really sets it apart from other neck woods. The fragrance will remind you of a new Martin guitar (their linings are Spanish Cedar).

We have a wide variety of different size neck blanks to accommodate nearly any project. From electric guitar, acoustic, classical, archtop, and even bass, we've got the perfect blank to craft your custom neck.

Top quality tonewood
For over 50 years we've supplied select neck wood to instrument makers large and small. Each kiln-dried neck blank is a solid piece that's ready for bandsawing and shaping in your shop. The largest billets are capable of producing two necks. Each quartersawn blank is graded AAA. Sizes include sufficient wood for adding headstock "ears."

Our instructions "Neck Construction Tips and Techniques" include tips for headstock construction, routing for a truss rod, laminating a classical guitar heel, and more.

Features:

  • Spanish Cedar (Cedrela odorata)
  • Top quality AAA-graded
  • Quartersawn
  • Kiln-dried
  • Ready for bandsawing and shaping
