Erick Coleman: Our Fret Slotting Miter Box is the best available for cutting slots by hand. Sawing is faster and easier. The saw rides on the ball bearing guides for extra smooth cutting without binding. Our miter box is made out of rugged aluminum, so it's going to last a really long time. It'll fit fingerboards up to two and seven eighths inches wide, and that covers your four string and most five string bases as well. It also has mounting holes on it, so you can attach it directly to your work bench or to a board like I have here.

Setting your depth of cut

Adjust the thumb wheels to set your depth of cut to match the tang of the fret wire that you're using, then lock them in place. When the spine of the saw reaches your ball bearing guides, the cutting stops at exactly the depth of your fret tang. Our miter box works with most available fret slotting saws, as long as they have a spine on them. I like to use our Japanese saws because of the sharpness, balance and durability.

Accurate fret slotting without having to measure

Use our fret scale templates for accurate fret slotting without having to measure. They come in 11 different versions, covering over 20 different scales that include acoustic and electric guitar, bass, banjo, baritone, mandolin, ukulele, and that's it.

The index pin fits the notches in the template for quick and easy locating with no guesswork. Moving the board is as easy as lifting the template and placing it in the next slot.

Using your own custom scale is easy too. Simply mark out your fret board, line up your saw to the marks, clamp it down and start sawing. The open top provides an unobstructed view of your work, which makes lining up the saw easier.

Simple to use and durable. The Fret Slotting Miter Box will provide you with years of precision work.
