Pale Moon Ebony Back + Side Set - 002
Every once in a while, something comes along that doesn't just stand out, but it stops you in your tracks as being a true, extraordinary find…this is one of those moments.
Pale Moon Ebony (Diospyros malabarica)
Also known as Black and White Ebony, Pale Moon Ebony is one of the rarest tonewoods on earth. Its dramatic contrast—jet-black ink lines across a creamy blonde backdrop—is nothing short of mesmerizing. Each set is one of a kind, with natural figure and patterning that looks hand-painted by nature herself.
And while it's stunning to the eye, it's equally impressive to the ear. Pale Moon Ebony has a strong fundamental with clear articulation and long, singing sustain. The tap tone is glassy and tight, with a subtle depth that rewards both fingerstyle and flatpicking.
Minimum Dimensions
- Back halves: 8" x 21" x 0.155" (203mm x 533mm x 3.9mm)
- Sides: 4-1/4" x 31-1/2" x 0.130" (108mm x 800mm x 3.3mm)
Rare. Exotic. Nearly impossible to replace.
Pale Moon Ebony is notoriously hard to find in guitar-sized dimensions. The trees are small, and the distinctive coloration occurs in only a tiny percentage of logs. To secure even a few bookmatched sets of this quality is incredibly rare. These are kiln-dried, stable, and ready for your next masterpiece.
Good workability
Though dense, Pale Moon Ebony bends well with standard precautions and responds beautifully to sharp tools. Whether you're building a showpiece, a collector's dream, or a one-of-a-kind tone machine, this wood delivers—both visually and sonically.
