Great upgrade

By

Verified Buyer

I bought this to upgrade the stock bridge on my Squier Bullet Mustang. It’s so close of a match that at first I thought they were the same. But it has some extra weight and is formed slightly different. Once installed I could hear that it is a better quality part. All the screw holes matched up just right, easy install.

OK for the money

Not perfect, but it's an inexpensive bridge so you get what you pay for.
I ordered for a short-scale (Kids guitar) build so the narrow string spread was important.. and I don't need the fanciest bridge for this.

Pros:
-------
- Chrome plating looks good.. consistent..
- Decent amount of 'meat' in Saddles where set-screws and intonation screws are threaded through.

Issues (not deal-breakers, just being thorough):
---------
- screw hole thread tolerance.. There's noticeable wobble in the intonation and height screws when they're threaded into the saddles. I'm guessing the manufacturer tapped the holes a bit over-sized so that they could chrome them without plugging the holes. I would expect a tighter tolerance if I'd paid more.
- set screw length.. I'd like to have had the set screws just a bit shorter. I'm going to have to grind them all down so the set screws sit below the tops of the saddle. They seem to be just a bit longer than needed.. especially given that there's plenty of thread length through the saddle.
- string hole position is a bit low on mine. The chamfer in particular is down into the bend, so it looks like the ball-ends will be down into the body wood when it's strung up. Note.. I haven't installed yet so this may turn out to be a non-issue, but from looking at it, I feel like the clearance between the body and the string holes is going to be tight (specifically for the ball-ends). I'm tempted to route a small groove out behind the bridge position to make restringing a bit easier.

Overall.. looks like it'll work great for a kid's guitar or basic build. I'd invest in a better fixed bridge if I was trying to upgrade or build one of my own.

Seems to be very well made, and chrome. There were other, cheaper choices online but I wanted a solid quality bridge. Stew Mac delivered for me.

Perfect saddle height...

The back edge of this model comes up higher so that the adjustment screws don't form too much of an angle when at the perfect height.

Great part for the price!

Althiouh the included screws are very soft and distort when installed, the bridge is just the ticket for hard tail builds. Be sure to drill correct diameter pilot holes! I used a harder screw to cut my threads then installed the included screws lubed with beeswax...worked great!

I like it

By and far the nicest quality generic top-load bridge I've worked with. Very sturdy, high mass style saddles great for resonance/sustain & saddle screws stay where you set them. I did have to mod saddles so strings don't drag across back-end (filed out notches) - that's just my preference (otherwise I'd give it full 5 stars). There are plenty of inexpensive top-loaders out there - this one is notably better quality; thicker, more solid, screw mechanisms function well. Happy to recommend for upgrade or project!
