Dozuki Cross-cut Saw

Super-efficient traditional Japanese pull-cut handsaw.

Like other traditional Japanese woodworking saws, the Dozuki backsaw is a finely crafted tool with teeth designed for pull-cutting (Western saws cut on the push stroke). With practice, you'll discover three big advantages of pull-cutting that have earned its place in so many guitar shops. First, pulling the saw keeps the blade taut, enabling a thinner blade for more precise cuts—vital for joinery such as critical dovetail tenons. Second, pull-cutting makes a lighter saw weight possible, so the tool is less tiring and more enjoyable to use. And third, this saw cuts fast!

The Dozuki saw is an example of the craftsmanship and efficiency of traditional Japanese woodworking saws. It features a high quality .011"-thin alloy steel blade with 9-1/2" (241.30mm) cutting edge. Precision-cut teeth are kerfed to .015" for efficient cross-cutting, and the steel spine is slightly arched for extra stiffness. The blade depth tapers from 2-1/16" to 1-5/8" (52.39mm to 41.28mm)—ample for trimming braces, blocks, linings, peghead veneers, fingerboards, dovetail tenons, bridge blanks and more. The traditional rattan-wrapped bamboo handle provides a comfortable slip-resistent grip.
