Cam Clamp

About This Item

Traditional cam clamps made of hardwood and steel, for years of daily use.

They're faster and easier to use than metal C-clamps, and they give strong pressure for instrument assembly. Slide the upper jaw into position and flip the offset cam lever to tighten the clamp. The jaws have protective cork lining.

Small clamp has 4-1/2" depth; the large clamp is 8-1/2" deep.
Both sizes open to 8".

Stewart-MacDonald cam clamps are crafted from sturdy maple and strong rust-resistant galvanized spring steel, for years of daily use.

not so bad

I would give them 5 stars but the lever was stuck on 3 of the 6 I bought (which is pretty bad odds, honestly), and I ended up hitting them with a mallet and hoping they opened without breaking.

I think the finish wasn't cured on them before they were assembled, that's my best guess as the why they would be stuck like that/

Simply the best I've ever used

By

These are simply the best cam clamps I've ever used -- and I already had a number of the original "K brand" clamps that most consider the quality standard. In addition to the usual high-quality Stewmac materials and overall build quality, I consider them an upgrade for three reasons: (1) the upper jaw pins are precisely positioned to grab and release as they should, and the bars are toothed along their back edges to reduce slipping; (2) the cams are positioned correctly for a good range of clamping strength (something that I've found most of the cheaper clamps don't get right); and (3) the jaws are padded, not with regular, crumbly cork, but with rubberized gasket cork, which will last a LOT longer, and which I've never seen on any other vendor's cam clamp. Great work, Stewmac!

Exactly what I needed!

By

I recently purchased a Wilkinson ST-60 kit from Stewmac (which is moving along nicely toward completion!) but realized that I lacked just 'one more thing' to get it done right. This little cam clamp is the tool I needed for precise neck to body alignment while protecting the frets from damage. Exactly what I needed and it works perfectly! I highly recommend this (or its larger variation) to any solid body guitar kit builder! John E. St. Louis, MO

Large Wooden Cam Clamps

By

Verified Buyer

I recently ordered 2 new Large size wooden Cam Clamps as some of my older Stew Mac Cam Clamps are getting a little tired and worn out. The new Clamps came and they looked beautiful! However, when I went to use them I found out that they did not work as well as my older Stew Mac Large Cam Clamps. I’m not sure what has changed, but they do not work as well as I had expected. I did notice a difference in the sawed out channel where the wooden Cam is attached. The channel was sawed out with a different radius circular saw blade. So, that’s the only difference I can see other than one new added screw, which the older clamps do not have. In closing, I’m not satisfied with the new Clamps performance, as compared to the older Stew Mac Large Cam Clamps.

Great Tools

By

Verified Buyer

These are truly great tools. I am always finding new ways to use them. e.g. Want to hang something from a high shelf without installing a hook? Clamp one of these on the shelf and us it as you hook. Need to cut a bunch of pieces of wood to the same length? Clamp one of these to the rip-fence of your table-saw and use it as a gauge to register the wood with the miter-gauge. Or clamp it to the miter gauge to repeat cuts of a single length using only the miter gauge
Great customer service from StewMac too -- order shorted somehow, corrected with grace and alacrity upon receipt of an e-mail.

Perfect for my hobby needs

By

Light, cork makes it safe, can operate with one hand, cheap but reliable. I’m a hobbyist looking for practical, reliable tools that don’t require workshop level surfaces or investment, and knowing they wont be subjected to workshop type demands (daily use for 10 years. For the few kit builds I have planned, these are perfect.

'A' for design. not quite as heavy duty as I would have liked, but will work just fine. I use them for holding large drawer fronts on cabinet drawers while screwing on. A really good company for delivery and follow up.

I’ve used cam clamps from different manufacturers over the last 20 years but these are lighter than many and as durable as they are easy to use. The perfect cam clamp!
