WoodStax Granadillo Dreadnought Kit, Bolt-On Neck - 181
What you see is what you get
We've photographed each set individually—what you see pictured in the first image is the actual wood you'll receive. Zoom in and check out each set's unique figure, grain, and every detail of your kit's back, sides, and top and get ready to build your dream guitar.
For this dreadnought kit we combined beautiful AAA Granadillo (Platymiscium yucutannum) back and side sets with our lightest and stiffest AAA Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) tops for you to create a stunning custom guitar. This wood combination makes a guitar that is powerful, dynamic, and amazingly rich across the tonal spectrum.
You don't need a shop full of tools
Perfect for beginners or pros alike! If you don't have all the specialized tools you need to thickness sand tops or bend sides, or you want a head start that will save you hours of build time, this is the kit for you. All of the critical work is done so you can start and finish this build with ease. When you open the box, you're ready to build.
These are just a few of the complicated steps that are done for you:
- Carving the neck
- Joining, thickness-sanding, and profiling the soundboard and back
- Cutting the soundhole and routing the rosette channel
- Accurately bending the sides
Although not a true Rosewood, Granadillo has been favorably compared to Cocobolo and East Indian Rosewood in both appearance and tone. Sometimes called Macacauba, Hormigo, or Mexican Rosewood, its ringing tap tone makes it a favorite for builders. Each note is full of rich overtones, long sustain, and amazing clarity. The deep bass response is focused while the mids and highs sparkle similar to Brazilian Rosewood. When combined with the chime and response of the Sitka Spruce, the guitar you build will compliment any playing style.
Granadillo's natural medium brown color has hints of purple or red, and over time it develops a deep, beautiful rich chocolate hue. The light grain lines add subtle movement and makes each piece unique. Wavy, river like figure is also seen in some sets. Under finish, the wood shows its appealing warm color and understated elegance.
