Golden Age Restoration Tuners for Slotted Peghead Guitar - Fleur-de-Lis

About This Item

Unique 3-on-plate tuning machines, as produced by Waverly in the World War I era.

Our Golden Age replicas were chosen for Martin's 000-28K Authentic 1921 reissue guitar, featuring unique 'worm-under-post' configuration (a popular style for the era).

"Mouse ear" steel baseplates with square worm supports, hatched lines, and fleur-de-lis (lily) engravings are a distinctive motif originally featured on Waverly tuners in the years around World War I.

Golden Age tuners are the rebirth of popular early 20th Century open-gear tuning machine designs. Replacements for the originals have long been sought by collectors and luthiers to restore older guitars and improve their tuning. They're ideal for adding an authentic vintage touch to reproduction instruments.

  • 15:1 gear ratio for improved tuning
  • Vintage-style square riveted worm supports
  • Original-shape grained ivoroid Galalith knobs
  • Worm gear under string post
  • 0.236" (6.00mm) string post diameter
  • Original mounting screw spacing (screws included)
  • 1-3/8" (34.93mm) string post spacing
  • Bright nickel finish

Note: Plate-mounted tuners can't work efficiently if the pegholes are improperly aligned. Our Tuner Drill Jig ensures the correct spacing for accurate tuning.

"People who build replica instruments or who do restoration or repair work are just going to love these."
—Frank Ford, vintage instrument repair expert

"Functionality and fine stylistic details are a must for any serious guitar, and Golden Age tuners fully deliver on both counts."
—Travis Atz, Recording King Guitars

"Golden Age tuners provided us with a high quality, economically-priced and highly appropriate choice."
—Dick Boak, Martin Guitars

"Superb function, aesthetics and detailing--clearly better made than the originals."
—Paul Hostetter, luthier

Used on a National Duolian

Verified Buyer

I bought this about 1 year ago and everything was fine, 2 months ago one metal part came off (the one that makes the tuner and the wheel go together. I didn't know what to do it was impossible to put it again, (the tension of the string was pushing too hard). Maybe I'm the only one who experienced that but that's a bad situation considering I will have to buy the pair of tuners again, when I just needed for one string.

Fabulous EXACT replacement for early Nationals!

Verified Buyer

I restored a 1930 Triolian and when I got the guitar, the tuners were newer replacements; and crappy ones at that. Trying to find original National tuners is nearly impossible, and when you do, you're gonna pay $$$ for them (By the way, newly made National guitar brand are NOT correct for antique Nationals because they do not have the fleur-de-lis). I found pictures online for original tuners, compared those pics with Stewmac's replicas, and they are a perfect match! I could find no differences whatsoever. What's more is when I got them, they fit perfectly into the 1930 head! No mods required! So, I antiqued them up (read online for some tips) and I can hardly tell they are not original to the guitar! Awesome, product. I would definitely buy these again. Good job Stewmac! Ya'll nailed it with these! Thank you for always providing awesome parts like this!
